It will be my intent at some point to have not only a photo/chat thread, but to eventually have plants and leaves listed for sale. That, however, will be well after I've had a chance to settle in here!

My name is Nichole (aka Syrumani). I have been growing African Violets & Gesneriads (some, that is!) going on 2 years now. I got my interest peaked on The Site That Will Not Be Named (for now), and due to the generous people there, I have received many leaves, plants, etc.

I have entered into a local club show last May, where I won Best Novice, and a few other blue and red ribbons. I entered some plants in the state show here in Texas back in November, where I received blue ribbons on all 4 plants, won the Best In Class and Best Trailer awards for Rob's Humpty Doo. I also took the judging school at the state show, passed that, now the wait begins for clubs to invite me to be a student judge at one of their shows!

Lin! Nice to see you!

I figured any new site needs to have certain forums. Morning Glories being one, and African Violets & Gessies being the other.

Who else is here? I should go check the member list . . .

HI, My name is Lou. On the site" that can not be uttered",I'm dispatcher 1, better know as Lurker Lou. I Love the AV's and Gessies and became addicted from that site. I am trying to learn to grow Gessies and I havea few nice plants and starts from the generous folks over there. I read the posts everyday, but I'm still cybershy and I don't post much. I may post more here, as I am in person a very outspoken person, and my views and comments would surely have gotten me kicked off .

I will look forward to being a buyer when plants are listed for sale. I have no local outlet for them here in small town, USA. I appreciate being able to buy from someone I "know". Thanks for starting this cubit. I'll be around alot. Lou

Hi everyone!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I just made it over here myself!
I haven't added a picture yet either... I'll have to get "all fixed up" before that happens! *LOL*
AKA VA_Wild_Rose... I live in an apartment, so my "gardening" endeavors have been limited to containers and indoor for some years now. That's how I stumbled into Gessies! I keep a little bit of this and a little bit of that... most thrive mostly on my neglect!
Glad to find y'all and see so many familiar faces!
Hi Lou, Hi Dimmer, Hi Karen!
I'm having a lot of fun wandering around these Cubits ... too much fun apparently because it's just like when I first joined DG, I can't seem to get anything done around the house! ^_^
Me, too! Scrambling to clean my own apartment (hard to do with 2 kids running around) before we go get hubby from work in a few hours!
I did take the time to trim up my streps, though. Since I don't have alot of space, I need to keep the leaves on the bigger ones trimmed, so that they will fit on the shelves I've got! I think I will have to break down and clean off my bakers rack. Don't know if anyone remembers my bakers rack from last year. Since we moved back in March, it has been used for books, movies, junk, etc. I've got it cleaned off once again, and got two of the 24" shop lights I had been storing at my mothers house this morning. I will put those on the two bottom shelves, and put the plants that are going to be for sale on those . . .
Also started setting aside the plants that I think will make the short list for the club show/sale at the end of April . . . there's almost 24! Could be more once I get thru sorting, repotting, etc.
Hello to everyone! It's nice to see familiar names here. I'm avpat from that "other site". I belong to a few other sites under the name patsavs and thought it would be easier to have the same name everywhere.
I am looking forward to joining all of you. My leaves have produced more babies than I know what to do with. I'm hoping we'll have the opportunity to trade leaves and plants when the weather cooperates. My main interest is still minis and micro minis. However, I have expanded into the semis in a big way. I also have a few standards that I've received over the last several months. They will need a home because I absolutely do not have room for them.
We're expecting about 30 inches of snow before this day ends, with another snow storm coming on Tuesday. Spring can't come soon enough! I'll be spending the day grooming plants and drooling over the new av catalogs.
Have a great day, everyone!
Welcome, Pat! Do you have Tiny Wood Trail?
Maybe we should have an early spring leaf trade? Maybe sometime in late Feb, early March?
My av leaves are starting to send up babies quite fast, and there's not much time before I'll have to pot up the strep babies . . .
Boy, do I have Tiny Wood Trail! How many leaves would you like? I have a hanging basket full of this one.
I believe I still owe you Rob's Zero Gravity too. I still have a tiny leaf pot that seems to have barely grown over the winter. I've never had a plant that grew so slowly before. It sure doesn't like the cold weather. I only have this one baby, so I have to wait for it to grow out before I can share it with you. I know there were a couple of others that I promised to you also. I have it all written down, so I won't forget to send them to you.
I'm up for a trade as soon as the weather allows. How about the rest of you? Anyone interested?
Oh, I was hoping to unload some on you! I have them coming out my ears! I have noticed, though, that the older my main plant gets, the bigger the leaves are. They're still miniature size, but on the bigger end, instead of the smaller! Maybe it likes it's current placing!
Mine is filling up a 6" hanging basket, but the leaves are not too large. I planted this basket last spring, so maybe it's not old enough to get the big leaves yet.
Hi, all. Here in Southern Indiana we only got about 4 iunches and another 4 inches due on Tues. I will only have standard AV leaves and episcias and chiritas to trade. Maybe we could get enough going on this thread to do a round robin.
On another topic, do you know of a good source to buy some sinns? I think they are beautiful and I may have better luck with something that has a tuber than I do with streps.
Anxious for Spring !!!!!
Lou - why don't you post your Haves over on the Have/Want thread? I'd love to have a look-see at your standard leaves!
As far as sinn's, I don't have any, but the places that come to mind are the usual suspects - violet barn and llg.
