Hi! I am kind of new at doll house building. I started a kit with my mom about 20 yrs ago. We never did get to complete and decorate the house, and then it ws destroyed
I purchased a new kit recently and have begun to build a small house..as a 'practice' before I go on to buy the massive (and expensive!) kit. I've already learned ALOT of do's and dont's in the process... DO not be in a hurry, DO decorate and paint the walls before you assemble, etc etc.
Would love to hear about your doll house experiences

Hi Annemarie,
I know there is another woman that does dollhouse I am trying to recall her name. She grows Roses and collect miniatures some of them I think she makes. Maybe someone that knows her will stop in and connect the two of you up. She lives here in Maine. Ill kepp trying if I find her I will send her your way.
well, its never too late! I didnt get one either...so building one for myself! lol! I wasnt much into dolls tho, more into tonka trucks and matchbox cars at that age....but decorating and building my own lil house has been challenging and fun....hoping someday I can design and buildmy own doll house. I've got the tools, I've got the material....just need skills LOL

I got to go get pictures for you tomarrow. You will not believe what I got sitting out in my Barn.
You will get the skills. Do you have a scrollsaw? I love my scrollsaw. A lot of kits out there just got to get a good miniature magazine to help guide you on your way. I have a bunch of old magazines. have several books. ....Have to go to my BArn.
Charleen
Charleen, Oh yes, we have a scroll saw and every other kind of saw imaginable! LOL!
I think I want to build a mini greenhouse next. Also there is a barn kit that I want to do for my grandson. But I wont let myself get started on any more projects until this house is complete!

I should've gotten a much smaller house kit to start with, but I fell in love with this one. I have everything to make it look just like that! Gosh! I wish I had more time on my hands to work on it! Maybe reading this cubit will inspire me to get it out and finish it. I've only built the shell and walls. I have electrical lines to put in as well as all the painting, wallpapering, flooring, etc. I think I even have some wooden flooring for it for downstairs in the kitchen.
I wanted to have my dh somehow make a display cabinet for it on coasters. It would be a large table with a glass display case under the table top for the house to be protected from my cat and dog. My dh could build something like that, but it would be a challenge. I think he would if I ever finish the dollhouse! LOL!
Wow! Thats beautiful! Its similar to the greenleaf one my mom and I started (and never finished!) 20 yrs ago! Ours was also a 3 story one... and massive! LOL! Which was the reason why I wanted to do the smaller one first! LOLOL!
I plan to put mine in the window seat area of our living room. I'll have plenty of room for additional barns and greenhouse and nowan outhouse! you all are giving me too many ideas! LOL
excuse the mess! I was painting that day

There is a lot of work involved when You electrify a dollhose but once you do it will be worth it.
I have not done it but have been to Miniature show in Atlanta and it was beautiful.
Where do you want the books listed where I get some of my patterns?? I found the one that has the outhouse, I sure remembered that book. It is a well worn book.
Old book, purchased in 1976, the name of the book is "Make your own Dollhouses and Dollhouse miniatures" By Marian Maeve O'Brien
this is the one you want. May have to check to see if it is still in print. I hope so. But I will send you the pattern if I have to draw it off for you.
I found it Becky! This is the one mom and I started to build many, many moons ago. I remember I was pregnant with my daughter and having to work over my big belly so it must be 20 yrs ago!
well, it sat there for a long time needing roof shingles, and then the lil red head was born and I had a 3 yr old too.
I dont quite remember what happened to it in the end. I know it never got decorated or roof shingles and I know mom doesnt still have it. I think that over time, moving it from place to place and house to house, I think it just got destroyed little by little.
and Yes! It ws a huge project to take on for our very first attempt. I was the one who got to do most of the building part and mom was going to do the decorating . So I guess maybe I should blame it on the lil red headed bundle of joy

LOL! Too bad your mom doesn't still have it! Maybe at some point, you can purchase it again ... for old time's sake! I think that would be neat! It's a fabulous looking dollhouse!
