I am a self-taught crocheter. I also tried to teach myself knitting but that was a dismal failure! Hilarious!

Maybe I can do an article on pattern reading soon. Smiling Once you have the basic stitches down (chain, slip stitch, single crochet, double crochet and treble crochet) then learning to read patterns is the next step. Once you can read the patterns, your whole crochet world opens up to you and you can crochet anything...with practice!

I have a hard time with the descriptions for new stitches. I tried and tried the other day...couldn't do it. I googled it and found MANY YOU-TUBE videos, much easier to learn Big Grin

My problem with patterns is that you need to read and do at the same time and loose your place. Most of the times I change the pattern a little anyway to suit me. But patterns can give you new ideas on designs and a patterns stitch.

DD friend had a hat for her daughter. She wanted to copy it. I told her how it was made and she asked me if I could write a pattern. I told her I could make the hat, but not write the pattern. She asked me if I could do it in a general fashion with drawn diagrams. Ahhh, yes that is the way I do it for myself Hilarious!

Hi Christine! Welcome!

I love that hat! could you upload a pattern? Hilarious! I am working on another hat for myself right now, I'll post pix soon. The pattern called for bulky weight (5) yarn, I did it in worsted weight, that one came out okay. Then tried one in super bulky (6) and that one was a dismal failure Glare came out too big. So I pulled that one out. Finally found some bulky yarn here (5) so...hopefully this one turns out even better than the first Hilarious! It gets really cold here in winter, so lots of hats are needed.

Does anyone have a pattern for crocheted slippers?

Don't really have a pattern. worsted weight yarn size I hook.

I started with ch 4 join then 2 sc in each around marking the starting point. Do not join.
next round 2sc in first sc, then 1sc in sc around.
next round sc in next 2 sc and then 2sc in next. Continue rounds making a slightly bowl shape for top of hat. I do about 16 rounds, then chain 3 sc around (30 loops) 10 rounds of that and then 5-6 sc crochet rows decreasing evenly around the first 3 rows to shape and that is it. Find your favorite flower pattern and have fun.

I made one with the loops a different color and one with just the band contrasting. They all look good. The hat takes about 2 hours to make

cheryl, 'then 2 sc in each' means you would put two single crochet stitches into each one of the stitches on the last row.
