Hurray! Hurray! DH bought me a Greenleaf Magnolia Dollhouse kit for Christmas! I'll post progression photos here as I build it.

One thing I've learned that helps a LOT in the building process is this: Dip or paint all the pieces of the dollhouse (except the pieces you will be staining) in a 50/50 solution of shellac and denatured alcohol BEFORE you sand any parts. This makes sanding go much quicker because the pieces hold together better. There is no more splitting and breaking of pieces! It also creates a smoother finish on the pieces. I wish I would have read this tip before I built my last doll house, it would have been built a lot faster and would have looked nicer Hilarious!

Anjl - Great tip! I will definitely try that! Can't wait to see your Magnolia house! You already finished it or are you still working on it? Please tell me that it is NOT finished yet! Ack!!! Glad you got the one you wanted! That is so cool! Do you have a work/craft room to build it in?

Oh I am far from having this one completed! Hilarious! So far, I've dipped all the window frames and door trim into the shellac mix, sanded them, and have 2 coats of satin white latex on applied to them. Hopefully I'll get to do a light sanding on them tomorrow and apply two more coats of paint. Then I can put the windows in them and start on the fun part. Building the actual house!

I dont have a craft room right now Sad I'm working on the dining room table. Thankfully we have a bar area where the boys can eat til the house is completed Thumbs up I just opened up the box and used the cardboard as a work surface on the table, then covered the cardboard with newspapers.

The plan is to have most of the major construction on the house done this week, so we can have our dining table back by the weekend. Thats the plan anyhow Whistling We are expecting a bad storm here tomorrow night that will dump several feet of snow through Thursday. If that happens we will probably lose power and doll house construction will be delayed (I'm using a hot glue gun to build it). I'm keeping my fingers crossed for now Hilarious!

I used my dining room table when I first started working on my dollhouse too. Can't do that anymore though as we do use the dining room a lot more now. My spare room is where I have my plant stations at and the dollhouse is sitting on the floor in there, too. It's the perfect work room. I just need a table for that room. I have the perfect work table in my garage but can't fit it through the doors or hallway to get it into the spare room. (sigh) Sad

I saw a card table at Walmart the other day, comes complete with four folding chairs which could come in handy someday too! LOL! its only $39 so I'm thinking of buying it to use for the dollhouses until I have a work studio again. I like that it folds up too!
