Didn't you dig them up, Annmarie? They could have moved with you.

Hilarious! no Blinking I was trying to simplify my life when we did the move. I moved about 1/4th of my iris (about 100 of them) and am still crossing my fingers and hoping they will survive that move. We were going to dig up the rose bushes and bring them up too (there are 5 of them) but didnt want to dig them up in the summer and chance losing them. We may still get to move the roses, only time will tell.

I did bring up my favorite lemon tree, and my favorite brugmansia along with about a dozen clippings off it in case it didnt make it. Those are potted up and in the basement & spare room now.

everything else got left behind Sad

I didn't know you could kill iris Anjl? We had some out on a burn pile in the field. Burned the pile in the fall and next spring there were iris blooming at the edge of the old burn pile. Smiling

It's hard when you're moving, I have left many things behind that I regret. some at prior homes. Most recently though, Mom lived in her assisted living apartment for about 9 years, she had a nice little patio area with a couple of yews. Every fall, I added bulbs in between and all around, mostly large, high quality tulips and daffs, but too, I had a beautiful collection of hyacinth in a border row (and those things are not cheap). During spring I'd put in other perennials so after all of that time she had a quite a nice background for the pillars and hangers of potted thngs we'd add in summer. I gave up her apartment in the late fall of '09 when it became apparent that she would not recouperate enough to go back to assisted. Once the movers were done I had intentions of going back to try to dig some of the bulbs, tubers, and roots but it suddenly snowed heavily, my own leaves were still falling, she got sicker requiring LOTS of care and dying just a year ago this week. Anyway, whomever got that apartment had some nice surprises this last summer I suspect!...I've been tempted to creep in at nite to try to recover some of my investment but alas!...more pleasure for future residents, OH WELL!

Boy Lynn, I hope you are right. I got some from a friend late this last fall because she hadn't had time to plant them. Many were very dry...Thinking better some than none, I did soak them and get them in just before the ground froze and marked them but I have a feeling that next season will deliver what is showing now...a couple of nice bunches of popsicle sticks! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

I agree I think it would be a nice feeling knowing that another elderly person is enjoying your moms garden now. Possibly someone who wouldnt even have a garden at all, if it weren't for your plantings Smiling

I'm scared that the iris I replanted will rot in the ground. We have had several freezes and thaws here because our weather has been so wacky this year. I also never got around to mulching them before the first snowfall of 3 ft Grumbling that storm kinda snuck in on us unawares Blinking completely unexpected.

all I can do is cross my fingers, if they dont survive... guess I'll just have to call snowpeak and order some more! Whistling

I'm not very nice to my irises. Neglectful. I don't do a thing to them. No mulch. I just let the snow have it's way with them. And they always come to life "gorgeously" every Spring. I think they like abuse. Yours will be fine.
