The St. Augustine Alligator Farm has been a place I go almost every spring to photograph the wading bird rookery. It is certainly a wonderful Florida destination

When we were there on March 6 there was only three active nests, all Great Egret. There were many roosting Black-crowned Night Heron, more than I have ever seen before.

Here are some of the birds seem at the Alligator Farm

A nesting Great Egret (Ardea alba). Notice the beautiful long feathers and green lores that indicate breeding status. The birds will continue to build and fill the edges of the nest as the babies grow

There are lots of alligators at the Alligator Farm. Another sure sign of spring is the bellow of the alligator. A bellow spreads across the swamp like a yawn. The bellow is so big the vibration makes the water 'dance' above the alligators back

Birds roll their eggs periodically throughout the day. You can just see the edge of a blue egg in the nest.

here is the gators- they are right below the bird nest. The birds are wild ones that have found the perfect place to nest.

Trees are full of nesting birds. I remember going down there many years ago and the number of birds where a LOT less and the area was mainly for the gators but as the rookery grow they have set more area aside for them.
