My mom is a member of Ancestry.com and has looked up and found all kinds of information about Haston (her maiden name,) Flowers (my great grandmother's maiden name, mom's dad's mom,) Schultze is my grandmother (mom's mom) maiden name.

Whitney is the name I am really concerned about it, that's my maiden name and my aunt (dad's sister) was doing the genealogy on that name and got all the way back to 1810 we were still in California, then she passed away. I haven't been able to find any information on Whitney and with the loss of my DH job I've had to cancel my membership. I know that my grandmother, dad's mom, Vivian Whitney was born 1911 and had 11 siblings, unfortunately I don't remember their names at the moment.

This picture is of my great-great grandparents, last name Flowers. She is 100% Cherokee Indian.

Crissy,

Thanks for your reply. Great photo of your great great grandparents. I apologize for the delay in getting back with you. I saw this on my Blackberry while I was out in the woods. I don't text worth a flip and I forgot to mark it as unread so I'd post to you when I got home.

Can you tell us a bit more about these families (Whitney/Haston/Flowers/Schultze) so we can add them to our database? Location and anything else you can tell us would be great. You can add any photos once the family name is entered.

I still have a membership to Ancestry and will be happy to look up Vivian Whitney for you.

Thanks,
Janet

Janet that would be awesome! I'm most concerned with the Whitney side, as no one can find anything on them before 1810. My mom has all kinds of information on Haston/Flowers/Schultze as these were her parents. Whitney comes from my dad's side.

I don't have hardly any information on Whitney, but Whitney is my maiden surname. Vivian, my dad's mom, was born in Sacramento October 12, 1911. My dad's dad, William Whitney, was born in Frenso in the late 1800's, he passed away when my dad was 12. My aunt, Margaret Whitney-Loveday-Melchor was born in Sacramento 1942 and my dad was born 6-23-1946, also in Sacramento.

Vivian had 10 or 11 siblings and for the life of me I can't remember a single one of them except for a sister named Lily. Vivian outlived every one of her siblings and all of her cousins. I know she also has I believe a niece living in Bakersfield also, I always called her Aunt Helen. I don't know Vivian's maiden name, my dad might know.

Margaret was looking on geneology to find out when and where we actually came from, she said she was back to 1810 and we were still in Sacramento, that had to be Vivian's side. Margaret passed away a few years ago, I think in March of 2007.

I don't think we're related to Eli Whitney, but then again you never know. Our strand of Whitney may have relocated before Eli was born.

My dad is the last one alive from the 'original' Whitney family.

I can ask my dad if he knows anything too, just let me know what you need me to ask him. I know that my grandmother never recovered from my grandfathers death and refused to divulge any information to the kids when it happened. My mom said that he was very very ill and in his 70's, but my grandmother was 40 something.

Thank you so much Janet!

That's them!! Woo Hoo!!! When I was on Ancestory I found my grandfather's form that he filled out when he went in the Military, I printed it and gave it to my dad. I never knew his first name was James, as far as I knew he went by William, or Bill Whitney. Even the Military form didn't have 'James' on it, just William Whitney.

Very interesting, thank you so much Janet!

I'm glad I could help. I looked for more info, but kept running into dead ends. Tried looking James William Whitney up but there were a bunch of those and without his birthdate, place of birth, etc. I wasn't sure which was him. The spouses were all wrong too, unless he was married before.

He may have been, my grandmother was 20 some odd years younger than him, he passed away in his 70's and my grandmother was in her 40's I believe. I had his birth date but gave the paper to my dad, it was 1897 or something around then.

I will check it out tomorrow. I'm working on dinner and am in and out. With Ancestry I really need to be sitting there because it's slow as molasses. A simple search can take all day long if I don't hold my mouth just right.

LOL!! I know it, it is slow. No rush here at all, I don't care how long it takes, and if you don't want to go any further with it that's fine with me too. When my DH starts working again I'm going to subscribe back to ancestory.com, I had a blast doing that!
