That Phelps babe from the Westboro Baptist Church
claimed that Steve Jobs is going to hell------------she made this claim using
an iPhone!??? Then claimed God gave her the iPhone for that purpose???
They are planning to picket Jobs' funeral.

They seem to be so ridiculous that they actually make a mockery out of their religion.

Maybe if we're real lucky, a big hole will open up and they'll all fall in it....maybe if we all concentrate on that REAL hard......

What I find really frightening about that family is that many of them work in child protection & legal services in their state, not that they think Job's is going to hell.
I have little confidence in any enterprise or business or investment that promises dividends only after the death of the stockholders.

It's awfully frightening that they're allowed to be in such positions....

Many members of that family are lawyers, I think it's one of the ways they make their money to support their ridiculous, hateful performance events. That's really all they are, performance events. The family seeks to be publicly provocative & you've got to admit, they're successful. But in terms of conversion to their view? Sticking tongue out The church hasn't really grown, as far as I know. It's still mostly family members.

I don't worry much about these family cult 'churches', as vile as they are. It's the more mainstream appearing ones that are growing their membership & preach submission, abasement, & fear that concern me. And they're mostly off the radar 'til election time, when they are very effective at getting their members out to vote.

Too bad the religious foodies & evangelical vegans aren't as effective in getting their members out to the polls... no, wait. I don't like their views either. Or all the regulations they'd like to pass...

The whole lot of 'em are a bunch of control freaks.

It's all about choices.
It's amazing how polarized most people are: lovely folks until it's discovered they are Mormons or Snake Charmers and then they are horribly demented people. OK...wierd choices they make, but does that make them bad folk. Confused

They become bad folk when their ill-bred ideas and opinions harm others.

Or even if they're half-way decent ideas, but at a shriek. Basically, if I can't tell the difference between person A and the run of the mill human by how they live, then browbeating me, guilt-tripping me, or nagging me isn't going to persuade me to anything other than irritation.

I think we also need to consider how the media supports & propagates this particular group by it's regular coverage of it. And doesn't give such rabid coverage to the counter-demos or other more constructive 'performance events' by other groups.

The media has done a lot to foster the polarization in this country, I think 'cause it makes money off of outrage & anger.

And then, just like Xtians, they repent on Sunday (anyone ever watch "Reliable Sources" on CNN?). "Oh we are such bad people for giving so much air time to..." whatever idiotic incident they've covered ad nauseum the preceding week.

Confidence is that feeling you have right before you do something really stupid.

But they wouldn't be printing or giving air time to that crap if there weren't so many people who listen to it. I think the fact is they're playing to a HUGE audience and that's what's scary....the number of people out there who listen to this s***.

"Follow the money trail....". Notice how much coverage they are giving to the Wall Street Protests? 0, zip, rien, nada.... Thumbs down

Well, a lot of that is from the same impulse that causes people to gape & stare at car wrecks. A fascination w/disaster. Watching someone publicly humiliate themselves is what drives "Dancing w/the Stars", don't you think?

And there's the pleasure one gets from feeling morally/intellectually superior to someone... I think a lot of politics, as well as religion, plays into that base craving.

I got proselytized about flax oil yesterday... Blinking really couldn't detect any difference in tone or mindless enthusiasm... Glare

I agree the media does make news out of the wrong incidents.
But some coverage is necessary so we know what scary groups are out there.
And the Jobs family held a private funeral at an undisclosed location.

It's really tough being a celebrity these days, it really brings the nut jobs out of the woodwork.

I'd be more interested in the media covering the lobbying of the mainstream churches, where the real power & money is, instead of whipping up furor over fringe group pissing contests. Now, if they wanted to do an in-depth investigative report on the effect this families lawyers are having in their various capacities w/in gov't. family services... but no, they want morbid curiosity, not actual critical thinking.
