| I just came in from planting 10 gold raspberry bushes some friends brought me. They were thinning theirs out and were thoughtful enough to pass them on to me. They gave me some last year and I didn't have any success with them. I think they were planted in a bad spot. The ground was hard, rocky and dry. I was hardly able to get a hole dug deep enough to cover the roots so I was not suprised at their demise. They were also too far from water for me to easily be able to give them a drink. This year should be different. I was more successful with the planting holes. We had a guy come in with a big machine and dig out our old culvert and put 2 new ones in. While he was here he dug me a ford across the creek so I could easily get to it to dip water for my chickens and dog. He also went across the creek and made me a "road" up to the top of the hill on the other side. It's more like a trail that will fit an ATV very nicely. That's the hill where I sometimes graze the goats so having the road will be a big help to me. The dirt on the sides of the road is still soft from when he worked them so I planted the raspberries along the road from the bottom of the hill to the top. I will be able to get to them to pick them with no trouble at all. The canes are all between 3 and 4 foot tall and are already leafing out. I can hardly wait to eat some fresh raspberries. Mmm |

| I got a few raspberries before the drought took it's toll. Then a big tree fell on the bushes finishing them for the year. I was looking at them a couple days ago and I see a couple of them are coming out. I hope they do well. The few berries I got last year were very tasty. |
