Anybody who is not a horse person would likely not know what pullin' cogs means. It's simply a short term for having the vet draw (pull) blood from a horse to do a Coggins test. You have to have a negative Coggins certificate and a health certificate before you can haul your horse or participate in any shows. Most trail rides also require them. It's a precaution. There have not been many cases in recent history of the disease it tests for but I am sure that is because the precautions were put in place. I like knowing the horses mine will be around are healthy for the most part. Of course, you also have to take sensible precautions of your own. We never let our horses drink from community water tanks on trail rides. We draw fresh water in their own buckets. It's more of a hassle but we never come home with sick horses needing antibiotics. The vet made a trip out to our friend's barn and we hauled 3 horses over there to have cogs pulled. That way we were able to share the expense of the "farm call". Today we are off to go collect the crew. Here are the girls, Coffee and Godiva, enjoying the graze in the ring. ![]() Here is Tug. He had to be kept in a stall because he is still a stallion. But he has an appointment to have that changed at the end of the month. Have to wait for the signs to be right. ![]()

We moved the girls back to their barn but Tug will stay at our friend's place until tomorrow.

Tug is still at our friend's barn and will likely stay the rest of the month. He will be gelded on Monday and we will let him recuperate a week or so before putting him back in with Max. We got the results from the Coggins test. All negative. We had every confidence they would be.
