Tug will have his 3rd BD on the 6th of June. He has been with us since before he was born but it hardly seems possible that he is that old. His Momma was a red and white spotted racking pony mare that we rescued. Her name was Granny and she was a pretty little thing. She was bred when we got her so we have no idea what Tug's Dad looked like or what kind of horse he was. Tug looks just like his Momma but is a good bit taller than her. We had him gelded on the 23rd and he is doing very well. I am looking forward to riding him soon. Also thinking strongly of taking him to a few shows and showing him at halter.
What a beauty! I had to look at the second picture twice because it looked like his wonderful mane was gone. Is he saddle broke or does that come later?

We are slowly working on him. We have had the saddle on him and we have led the kids around on him. DH has led me around on him. He has never offered to buck yet. Soon we will train him with the bridle.

We are blessed that both of ours are very layed back and have not offered a minutes trouble. We have done the same with Ben and he is doing well also. It is a gift from God to be sure. And a lot of time has gone into the relationships we have with them. We started them from the day they were both born. You don't get that chance with most horses.

I rode Tug around in the ring with the bridle on. He kept getting his tongue over the bit so I think I will change bits. I had wanted to go with a bitless bridle but have not fashioned one yet. I do not want to shell out the big bucks for one. Surely I should be able to put together one of my own with all the headstalls I have here. He did very well. Very willing when he began to understand what I wanted.
Knock also rode him around the ring and did very well. Now he wants to trade his chestnut mare for my spotted pony. What do you think of that? :)

Rode Tug in the ring again today. It is amazing how fast he is picking things up. Looking forward to getting him on the trail. Knock rode him too. Gonna have to keep him off if I want to keep my pony. LOL

Even Ray has ridden Tug around in the ring now. I think we can call Tug broke and set about getting him on a nice trail ride to get some miles on him. I am so pleased with him.

Two more "firsts" for Tug last night. I rode him outside the ring while I was waiting for a friend to finish working his pacing horse. After I got in the ring they brought another horse in and the kids rode her (Peaches) all around with Tug. He did great! He is truly ready for a nice, easy trail ride to get him in condition. Following an older horse for a few miles through the mountains will be just what he needs. I still have to work on his gaiting. He just can't figure it out but it will come.

Rode Tug again tonight. It rained today so there were wet spots around the ring. He hates to get his feet wet and goes to great lengths to avoid it. I worked him slow and kept encouraging him and he did pretty well. I cahnged him to a tom thumb bit and he really liked it a lot better that the straight bit. He was much more responsive to it.

No. I don't have one. The tom thumb works really well. He carries it easy, no fighting at all and he is very responsive to it so I can go really easy on him with it. Hardly any pressure on either rein and he turns very nicely. Also stops very easily.

Tug has come a long way since this last posting. He is completely broke and has been on his first trail ride. He did very well. He also has a new family. I had only ridden him once since the boys went back home and I hated to see him standing so lonesome. The family I sold him to board at the same barn we use so I still see Tug everyday and feed him every evening. I still ride him and groom him just like he never left me. The family he has now needed him more than I did. Thanks to him I am riding the big horses again and there were 2 little girls who needed him now. They had a very small pony they had outgrown but neither of the girls rides well or is very confident. Tug is such a sweetheart and so kind that they feel safe on him and are riding him even on the trails. Their mother is anxious to learn to ride him also. I hate that he is not mine anymore but it does my heart good to know that he is making such a difference in the lives of others. That makes it a bit easier. He is certainly a special little guy.
Awww, I am glad that you still get to see and love Tug even if he doesn't "belong" to you. Somehow I doubt that he cares who has his papers so long as he still gets to be loved by you and sees you.

I had him out last night at the barn with his new family. We brushed him and tacked him up and they let me ride first. Good thing because he was giving ( favoring ) his right front and they would likely not have noticed. I got off and picked his feet. They need to be trimmed because his frog ( soft part in the middle of the bottom of his foot ) is way too high and he was walking on it. I told them it had to be trimmed before he could be rode again so they took him to the farrier today. The daughter was disappointed because she didn't want to have to ride her horse. He was a handful. So I let her ride Firefly. She was very happy because she loves to ride Firefly. Firefly is so much smoother than her horse YoYo. I rode her a few trips too. The more she gets rode the better she will be. Times like last night I wish I had not sold Tug but I know I did the right thing. The right thing is not always pleasant.
It sounds like you have a good job ahead as you can still watch out for Tug and teach his new owners how to care for him and their other horses better at the same time.
