I had no idea! Have seen the Monarchs around, but have been too busy to pay close attention, so while I'm out cutting back the winter-sad pentas, I notice the cats. A quick look found 17 of them so far. Now I'll have to start watching for chrysalises...
This is much better than Easter Eggs!
We get frits from our passiflora. However, since the mockingbirds decided to nest there this year, I think they've eaten quite a few. For some reason, too, I kept finding cats on the door frames on the front door and garage (prior to nesting birds). What were they thinking? We moved several over to the vine. I do love seeing them flutter around, so I hope some of them survive.
Speaking of interesting....we went to San Marcos yesterday and I took along a short sleeved T-shirt in case it got too warm...threw it in the back seat, got home, grabbed stuff out of the car, came in, threw t-shirt on back of a chair...was sitting at the table a bit later and noticed something out of the corner of my eye and it was a Monarch sitting on my t-shirt, waving its wings, looked newly emerged, very bright. So...was it in the car? Land on my shirt on my shoulder on my way into the house? Rather a surprise.
Funny thing here, too. The day after I wrote the above post, I walked out the door to find a newly emerged butterfly drying its wings - on the frame around the garage door! Guess it new what it was doing after all.
