| I have a part of my garden that I call the "Lizard Lounge". It's full of containers and Lizards! We serve Coffee in the morning and Margarita's in the evening (whatever you would like in the afternoon is up to you!). We can talk about anything! |

| I'm so glad you've set up this Cubit Kat. I looked around and love it! Am adding it to my watch list. It's late now and I'm off to bed. Will be checking in again another time. Janet |

| Hey Janet...Great to see you! I really haven't had a chance to look at much either, but will be dropping in to your site also! I am sure you have got some amazing things there! Off to bed also... Take care Kat |

| Kat...Your admirers run from way down south to way up north. I sit with a box of napkins near the computer when I view your posts so I can wipe off the drool...You are amazing! Looking forward to adding a northern viewpoint to your cubits... Barbara |

| Awwww thanks! |

| Katg - beautiful! I will come here to see your plants while I am waiting for spring... I'll get some inspiration, meanwhile we're in the deepfreeze with a thick covering of snow up here in Nebraska All my containers are still clean, in the basement, waiting patiently... I love to garden in containers. It gives the freedom to combine so many ideas and colors. |

| Oh Kathy, that is beautiful, and with lizards. Wish we had them here. There is so much to look at, I could spend all day in there. You have a real talent. |
|

| So good to see you Chickadee (I like your name!) I guess I first started planting in containers because my soil (sand) is so bad and it was the only way I could grow something decent. I too love the freedom of it all. Usually around this time of year I've gotten so many great new containers planted, but we've had such bad weather and there's just not a lot being offered in the nursery's or garden centers these days. It's a shame because I'm missing annuals, as this is the best time of year to plant them. I'm glad you're here...as my threads on DG have been mostly Southern Plantings and it would be great to expand and see what you're planting in the North. (I miss a lot of those plants!). Can't wait to see what you're planning. Hopefully you'll get some ideas here also! Kat |

| Lynn? You don't have those cute little lizards in Texas? I can send a few in a box if you'd like! haha. They say (and just who are they???) they eat their body weight in bugs everyday. Now that's kind of amazing. I really like them actually but so does my "Hunter" Yorkie! Geeeeshhh! |

| Uggggh! What is up with this weather - all over the Country? I've lived here for 30 years now and have never had weather like this. Right now it's 43 degrees. I'm actually thinking of packing up and moving to Florida! Oooooops, I forgot...I live here! I really feel for you all in the Midwest/North...it's been a brutal winter! I want to get out there and plant things! However, the stock at the nursery's are really bad and I'm hesitant because of this cold. We were complaining in November because it was too hot...I'll take those hot days over this any day! |

| This really has been a bizarre winter all over our country!!! Enough already!!! We have had cruddy,cold since October, and the ground has been covered up with snow and ice since early December. It snowed all weekend, and then a strong wind kicked in at 25 to 30 mph. UGH The high was about 20 degrees. The roads are treacherous and there has been 4 fatalities on the interstate in the past 2 days So awful. I visited a local nursery last week ( between storms) just to breathe in the lucious earthy scent, and then I just HAD to bring something home. A cute little Schefflera in a 6' pot. It will be fun to nurture this new baby. I think this terrible weather will really make us appreciate spring when it finally arrives. |

| Hi Kay... I will never again complain that it's "too Hot" (well maybe I'll whisper it! hehe). When I see places like Washington getting 32 inches of snow...that's 32 inches not counting the drifts!!! It's been so chilly here, I've actually taken Orchids in and they're hanging in the shower! I kind of like showering in there with them! They seem to like it also...they're getting their humidity! Hope it warms up for you! Kat |

| Your cubit is BEAUTIFUL! Nice job. I'm about 3 months from planting containers. A little zone envy here |
|
|||
| Thanks Joanne - It will probably be totally different tomorrow! hehehe The way things are going here...We may be planting at the same time! NEED WARMTH!!! |
|
|||
| Oh, Oh...the containers are also coming inside these days...I have a bunch of plants in my kitchen window! Look what bloomed in the last couple of days. This is "Lady Ann" Amarylis! I really wasn't a big fan of Amarylis until I got one as a gift last year. I have a bunch outside that are ready to do their thing! |

| I love the Lizard Lounge Kat! I was wondering if you got much of the cold weather down your way. We had a week of Arctic Blast in Jan. so most all of the green foliage is now brown. Some things will come back from the roots, but most is gone. Take care of your beautiful garden Kat! Jeanne |
|
|||
| Jeanne: It's a shame isn't it? But what are you going to do? My Garden is brown! Some of it is starting to slowly come back but I'm hesitant to cut back the dead stuff until I'm sure this cold is over. Like you, I've got some plants that are just not going to make it...especially one's where I pushed the zone! I covered a lot, but you can only do so much. In the 30+ years I've lived here, I've never seen anything like it. We've had the odd freezing night here and there, but never for a week straight. That was the problem. If anything...maybe it will all keep those Gulf water temps down a little more this year! Take care Kat |

| I thought I would post this as I think some of you might be interested in it. I’m just sitting here thinking about some of the beautiful blooms that could be preserved! My Dear friend from Canada brought me a gift of some very pretty note cards. They’re just beautiful and they’re made with pressed pansies. Her neighbor makes them and I asked if she could find out how she does it. She does Pansies, but I'm sure there are so many other blooms that would preserve so well! She was very gracious to share her art. Here’s the email she sent… Only pick the pansies when they are completely dry, moisture causes them to go mouldy. Place the pansy outerside face down in a telephone book, I start off placing them close to the crease in the book, you can get quite a few on each page depending on size of the flower. Leave them for a good three weeks, I place an interlocking brick or something similar to keep weight on the book. Things needed to start putting the pansies on paper.. Kleenex, toothpicks, white glue that hardens clear, wax paper to put your blob of glue on, and cards for placing the pansies. I buy some cards at Hallmark, try to find cards that have little decoration on them, Michaels have some great cards from Martha Stewart, also Hobby Lobby but I don't know if they are in Florida. The Internet would be a good source for a nice supply of cards. First step is to arrange the pansies on the card, this takes some time as your first arrangement may not be the last. I arrange several and then start to adhere the flowers to the card. I often change my mind, so just hang in. Place a dab of glue on the toothpick and try to cover many places on the backside of the pansy, you will keep dabbing in the glue till you have covered as much as you need to. I then carefully place the flower glue side down on the card. Just try to remember just where you want the flower to be placed on the card.I press gently with a kleenex, and any glue that seeps out, I take it off with a fresh toothpick. This all sounds tedious and I guess it really is, but patience is a virtue and you'll be thrilled with the outcome. I am always amazed when people compliment me on my cards. What is prettier than and beautiful pansy. If you can plant some violas, the tiny little looking pansy, they are darling on the cards. Pink and mauve pansies press really well, some are better for drying than others, but you'll find that out as you go along. I plant in large containers which faces north, they grow here great in that location. Joan waters them while we are at the cottage, so she can give you some tips. Look on the Internet re: drying flowers and you'll see some interesting information. I am going to try this as I have some gorgeous pansies outside now! Kat |

| I think your cards are very lovely! This is my flower press. It has stacks of newspaper, so you can layer the flowers in it, between pieces of clean white paper. Then you just tighten the screws and wait a week or so. I've pressed a lot of pansies, they turn out so pretty. My daughter and I have put them on card stock and framed them. We have experimented with a lot of different flowers. its fun! |

| Kay...That is a really cool press! What other blooms are your pressing? I remember doing this as a kid in Encyclopedias...I can't wait to try these Pansies. I just need time to get out there and pick them when they're not wet. And yes, I would think white paper would be good as no ink would transfer. Thanks Kat |
