When are we going to let our war weary men and women come home? When are we going to allow the middle east to govern themselves? Even if it is a 'tribal' set of so called enemies we have pitted ourselves against (or vice versa) why do we have to continue to feed the beast of war? what are your thoughts on this?
Do you think the war is going well, that we may win? (as if any war' going well' is even possible)
Do you think our people (and the others from around the world helping) should come back and fix their own back yard?

How many countries does the US have service members in? What purpose do they serve in these countries?

In round numbers subject to variation as troops are reassigned from place to place.

Germany 52,000
Japan 36,000
Italy 10,000
UK 9,000

Another list covering all troops in an area where minor numbers are scattered in many countries.

Europe 78,000
E. Asia & Pacific area 47,000
Afloat on various ships 85,000

These are troops not engaged in combat areas such as Iraq and Afganistan.

List is supposed to be current as of 2008/2009.

This does not include tens of thousands of contractors and possibly 100,000 military dependents living abroad.

Can be checked out but I think Haliburton/KBR and subsidiaries are the prime contractor for military bases.

This is a better assessment of the military personnel from 2006/2007.

Very interesting Jerry. Just finished reading. Looks like an interesting stite to look around on too.
I loved here opening:

by Susan Galleymore
Americans are beginning to understand that the U.S. mission to spread freedom and democracy in Iraq and Afghanistan is not only not accomplished but it is also draining our treasury, killing, wounding, and exhausting our troops, "breaking" our military, and heaping shame upon our heads for the enormous number of civilian deaths. For those Americans asking, "How does our military work anyway?" Here is a cheat sheet.
Note: This will be an ongoing endeavor (well, within reason!) I will add military budgets and some comparisons with "outsourced" or contracted (mercenary) info too.
