Beginning a new series since the former one was becoming long. The current scandal with two very senior generals who had served in the same areas has gone from titillating to bizarre. One of the women had illegally obtained classified documents and the other is a foreign born Lebanese emigrant who had VIP access to a sensitive military base and also was a confidant to a South Korean diplomatic official. They apparently knew each other. We've got to have a movie about this after all the sham investigations are completed.
John McCain has again made a fool of himself with his conduct concerning the events in Libya. His displays of anger and hate have accomplished nothing except to diminish his legacy as one of the true heroes of the Vietnam war. Go home, John, and enjoy your wife's millions. Go out to the Grand Canyon and look deeply into the abyss and try to understand you are just a tiny part of the overall plan of life. Take up gardening since it is soothing and therapeutic for fits of anger.
Just heard Joe Scarborough, who I take as a middle-of-the-road Conservative, say Conservatism is a racket used by people to become rich. Once I was hit by a lot of slings and arrows on the Tea Party forum for saying essentially the same thing.
He was referring to the likes, although not by name, of the Palins, Coulters, Ingrahams, Hannitys, Becks, Limbaughs, Liddys and the thousands of other talkshow blowhards who make a great living on spewing hate and bitterness. Also, a lot of two-bit politicians who could not be elected or appointed dog catchers if it was not for the crap they spout to their unwary voters.
It has been said a leopard cannot change its spots so we shall see how far the new soul searching goes with the Republican Party.
Michigan just passed a Right-to-Work Law. Many people do not understand the functions of the law but, essentially, it forbids a closed shop in the workplace. A closed shop means one must be a member of the authorized labor union or pay an "agency fee" if one choses not to be a member. The agency fee is equal to the normal dues minus any funding used for any purpose other than direct representation in the workplace.
As a retiree who spent 43 years in a union shop, I have mixed feelings concerning the right-to-work laws in that it permits one to reap the benefits of someone else's efforts and money but, on the other hand, it will encourage the employers to pay the union scale and benefits to the nonmembers. Make no mistake, without the labor unions, minimum wages would be the top pay in this country. Minimum wage workers do not buy a lot of new houses, cars, take expensive vacations, save a lot of their money, and a lot of other things which create a vibrant economy. Time will tell how the union busting actions will work out for the country.
Well, years ago when my husband was hanging commercial drywall (California), the Carpenters' Union was on strike..non-union workers came in to replace them..eventually all of these non-union workers became part of the Carpenters' Union and when they went on strike, letters were sent out to all union members to help them out financially....yeah, right. I think that too often the union bosses don't care about the membership as long as there is a membership to supprt the bosses' jobs. We tend to be of the opinion that non union work is not 'union qualty'......but as you say, I see both sides...I've seen the abuses of unions also.
The only quality aspect of union versus nonunion work is in the skilled trades unions where strict training and apprenticeship is required. Otherwise, for the normal work performance, I cannot see any difference except the nonunion workers may work harder and better in order to keep their jobs where they do not have the protection of unions.
I had just praised a statement purported to have been made by Morgan Freeman which was posted on a friend's Facebook. Out of curiosity, I checked with google and found it was a complete hoax. Morgan did not issue any statement concerning the school shooting.
It just proves that even one such as myself, who seeks the facts as known, can be misled and take things as gospel. Taking anything at face value is one of the main reasons we have such division among people today.
For the record, the statement concerning the shooting at the grade school was right on, it just was not made by Morgan.
There have been several postings on the internet concerning the intent of the Westboro Baptist Church group to picket vigils held for the victims and families of the recent school shootings. The very fact that scum such as this are permitted to live and breathe while little children are slaughtered is one of the many reasons I am not a religious person. Where are the thunderbolts and fires from the sky when we really need them?
My friends and I were talking about this very thing..and our general feeelings on the subject of these Pyscho's who call themselves Christians was that if we were residents around the state of Conn. we would form a melitia and arm ourselves with all implements of weapons...pitch forks, sticks, rocks, clubs, etc. and bar these Psycho's from even entering the State...and it was also our feeling that no matter what families, friends and neighbors who attend the funeral of a fallen soldier, innocent children or any other member of the community gay, straight, or Bi....should have the same protection from people like this who spew their HATE in the name of God.
Ok off my soap box now...Everyone have a kind of day that brings you joy.
lol...well, no. First of all those who do these acts are cowards. And, yes, if they were going after people who were armed and going to stand up and shoot back, they might give it another thought. Then again, maybe not if they see their acts in the same light of 'suicide by cop'.
Have been watching over the past few days of a Jewish drive to furnish food boxes for the Israeli poor. Seems as though it should be the opposite after all we have done for and given to them. They should be collecting food boxes for our poor.
