Nation - the away team's fans at a sporting venue. It is used in the singular and without an article e.g., "Fights in the stands are caused by too much beer and too much nation."
This comes from ESPN refering to Red Sox fans as "Red Sox Nation", or sometimes just "The Nation".

Team Name Nation is from t.v. Just "nation", as in this definition, is a Kelli-ism. I think the Team Name Nation might have originated with Raiders Nation. Raiders Nation is scary.

LOL I'm sure there is Kelli! Yes, The score is close. I haven't paid much attention to the Braves this year. The Phillies game is blacked out here. I can't believe how many seats are empty for the Marlin/Braves. It looks like more than half the stadium..

Stormy, how come the Phillies game was blacked out?
There were a lot of empty seats at the Dodger game last night, even though it was a cap give-away night. Maybe a lot of people stayed home to work on their income tax or the season finale of "American Idol" or something.
The Dodger game was against the Cardinals. I didn't see any nation.

No, they don't black out games here, not Dodgers, Angels, Lakers, or Clippers. I think if they blacked out games, people would lose interest and watch or do something else.
So they expect you guys in PA to go down to DC to see the games?

As part of 'The Nation' I can attest to the zeal of a Red Sox fan. We have been to Sox games at the home team's venues ~ more often than not there are more of us than the home team fans.

Julie, even we Phanatics can't get seats to home games here in Philly. We've had over 100 consecutive sell outs now. Going to an away game is the only option for this nation.
But that's fun to do! Although I love Boston, and Fenway Park, I'd rather travel somewhere else to see a game, it's cheaper! (for the seats, anyways :smily:)
Boston games are the same way. You have to get on the computer the day tickets go on sale, otherwise it's a no-go.
We go through the blackout thing when football season rolls around. The Bills usually sell out.. somehow.. but after 4 lost Superbowls and an 80,000 seat stadium it isn't easy.
