That is a good word! This year I said 'heck with the eggs!' No one (but me) eats them, although my family of artists loves to decorate them.
So this year we decorated cookies. Those I know will get eaten.

In the past I have dyed raw eggs. That way they could still be used for scrambled eggs, in baking, and so on.
