Petrie has a very real story to tell about going from rags to riches. We don’t know how he spent his first 3 years of life, but we do know what his life is like now. This is his story.
What a wonderful story, Lynn. Smiling through my tears. I am so thankful for people like you and your family, but I am also thankful for little guys like Petrie who teach us so much about life. What a happy little fellow he is. Thanks to you!
Beautifully written, thank you for sharing Petrie with us.
Thank you Sharon. I don't know that I would have done this article if it hadn't been for you. Thank you for all your words of encouragement. Petrie thanks you to. It is amazing to see how quickly people stop feeling sorry for him as soon as they interact with him. I have to remind them in the first few minutes to not show pity, he does not feel that way about himself. He is so upbeat and happy.

I couldn't have said it any better Sharon. What a great dog and Lynn you are an awesome DogMom. I too have a Rat Terrier. They are a very special breed indeed!
Janet you are right, they are very different and special. But then I guess I feel that way about all the dogs I have had in my life. : )
Petrie is our third Rat Terrier.
Tink is adorable. Here is our Nikki. Her and Tink look about the same size. : )

Nikki is beautiful! Tink is now 12 years old. She's put on some weight and really needs to slim back down. Hopefully she will be able to do that now that it's warmer outside. She loves to run after the ball, but walks slower these days.
Thank you Allison. He is such a happy little guy, seems like that is what he gives to the people he meets, pure happiness in the joy of living. What a great way to go through life.
Janet, Nikki is 10 and still runs and plays like a puppy. Many of the terriers can live to 20 years old if feed properly. We feed Innova, no table food, and cut back in winter when they aren't outdoors much. As soon as good weather arrives I start increasing their food. While I was gone (just got back home) for almost a month, DH over fed just a tad. I could see that both were a little heavier. : ) It's important especially for Petrie to keep the weight down as being overweight would be very hard on his back legs. Nikki stays pretty busy making sure the birds don't stand on her lawn. Good thing the creek divides our back yard in half. I keep the gate close so the birds can do their thing in peace.

And to think I was just recently seeing his photo in your garden tour & never even noticed his disability! He just looked like a very happy, well adjusted lad. Which he obviously is.

We hope to be able to help everyone know and understand their pet dogs better. This cubit will include dog training of all sorts. Dog experts and amateurs will hopefully interact here in order to gain more and better knowledge about "Man's Best Friends"
