BIOFUELS

ImageResearch and development of biofuels is being funded by U.S. Departments of Energy and Agriculture and the private sector. Much science and practical learning is coming from these studies. The development of biomass for energy for automobile and aviation will alleviate the thirsty demand of fossil fuel. Generally, biomass includes crops of sugarcane, grain and algae, certain species of these plants. The notion that they can be grown and processed for local use and under local conditions (weather and water) is very desirable. Unlike fossil fuel, the biofuels are a renewable resource. There are definite negative issues with development of some biofuels; land use, energy used to produce, displaced food production. However, some considerations have almost no impact in these regards; sugarcane, algae and sweet sorghum.
