Epiphytes are plants that live on a host plant without any apparant rooting area: many philodendrons, most orchids, 'Christmas Cactus' hoyas, .... They dont kill the host plant like Parasites do.

Yes, it makes a lot of sense. Many get epiphytic and parasitic confused. I guess you could say that epiphytes live on a host plant and parasites life off the host plant....
Wren is known to some of us as Sandy the Epi nut , or the Epi Queen as I have nicknamed her! She has a lot of Epiphyllum (Orchid Cactus) and is very knowledgeable on this particular plant.
I have a couple of Epiphyllum (Orchid Cactus) - if they are still alive after our horribly cold winter. I'm really looking forward to my E oxypetalum to bloom again.

Cool!!! Wren...come back!!
I'm not pretending to know alot about specific genera, but I love them. I like sitting back and learning. If you all want specific forums or have great ideas, let me know!!
I am still learning and if you saw the condition of some of my plants after the baking last summer, y'all would shot me. I now have a weather station by my chair with a senor out in the greenhouse so I can tell at a glance how hot or cold it is, and do something about it. We also are going to fix the roof so part of it can be pushed up so will be better able to vent it.
At least two fans with misters on them will be put out there on timers. I promised the epis that I would not let it get over 90 out there this year. If the hi/low them. out there is right it get up to 120 at one point. OUCH!!! We are also going to put more shade on it if I can get my so DB back working on it.
I'm so excited. I have to share, but my Night Blooming Cereus has 12 buds on them. I know some of them will fall off before I have blooms, but 12 buds!

Beautiful flowers. I only have one Epi at the moment, a red one that gave us one huge blossom for almost 2 days a couple of years ago. I had more plants in my greenhouse, wiped out by a freezing night when the furnace didn't come on. The red one just happened to be in the house so that's why I still have it. A friend in Wisconsin is sending me some cuttings of a pink one.
I found this cubit through the random cubit feature. Cool huh? And I see familiar names and faces.
