I want to start going to the gym again, and eating better (too bad I love avocadoes so much.....).
My daughter is helping - she and I are "linked" on the myfitnesspal.com site.... and I'm learning Just How Many Calories are in things that are good for you - avocadoes for one - they're 322 calories for One, raw.

Perpetually happy!
I snack on "zero" calorie items. I've always got a small bowl of diced watermelon beside me in the evenings....much better for me than the chips Hubby snacks on and i don't feel left out in the snack department.

May I join in?

I really believe (now) in getting fit. But I'm on the opposite side of what people see as unfit, meaning, I've always been too skinny.

May I Continue? Some people would want to throw rotten avocados at me now Hilarious!
I did a basic screening at an outdoor promo event, given by a small gym. The screener/ instructor was sort of shocked at my low BMI or whatever, and poor posture. And I have osteoporosis, not osteopenia, already at age 52.

Last year I tried for the first time, a weight bearing class at the gym, group with music designed along with it. I love it. And- there's a whole range of ages and body types in class. I'm there with the same goal as the guy who is very very overweight. Isn't that interesting?

Never thought I would like a class, but having someone else make the schedule sure helps me get there, rather than limit me. And having people get familiar in class, knowing that 'Carol' and "Jennie" will be there and say hi for example, is nice!

So, since I'm kind of looking for a job (UGH!) and do believe that exercise and good diet are important, in general, but there's always big room for improvement on my part, "here" I am.

Absolutely you can continue, Sally!! We all need weight support, for whatever end of the spectrum you're at.
At one time my ex (he wasn't my ex then) thought I was anorexic because I was only 111 lbs (when I started this, I was about twice that.......... *Blush* ) and I had NO fat on me, but I felt GOOD and had lots of energy. Thumbs up

Sally - we will never exclude anyone who has a weight issue, so never fear. Heck, we'll support enough to send you some of Ours Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Wish it were that easy, but it's not....... Whistling

Hilarious!
Thanks Susan!
I fully respect and understand how hard it is to change your body weight, cuz I know how very little control I have over mine.

I bet there are lots of skinny but weak people out there cuz I was. I feel better with my improved posture, and that I can tell when I do things, how I've gotten better muscles for it.

I've tried three exercise group classes, but like one the best. SHould I give some feedback here? I wondered if you want to add threads on different topics.

hmmmmm now There's a thought. I don't know much about people trying to gain weight, and what exercises, etc you'd do/use, but if I start it, could you let others know about it, and sorta moderate it?

I can sure help.
I didn't actually mean it had to be about weight gain. I thought some might like to read people's impressions about classes they've tried.

Example, I tried Zumba which sounds really fun. But for me it moved so fast and had a lot of dance-y moves that I don't know at all; I found it hard and made me feel too clutzy. And people who are really into it can buy special shoes. Who knew?

ah - a young women I know went to Zumba with a friend of hers - not sure what she thought of it though. In her 30's she probably knew more of the dances than I would! *Blush*
I guess re: new thread, could talk about exercise classes, boot camp, gyms, etc?!?! Is that what you mean, Sally? Ears perked up!

Hi gang, I keep trying to get fit. I know alot about the type of things I should do exercise and food wise but I do have trouble actually doing those things. Come fall I will probably start a regime again like I have done before. I do best from Jan to March then I get too busy to keep up with the gym, I give up entirely during the summer and in the fall I figure that with the Holidays coming there is no reason to start till they are over.

I think a forum for different types of classes is a good idea. I actually had to ask someone what a "spin" class was *Blush* felt foolish finding out it's just a stationary bicycle kinda thing.

Big Grin yes SallyG - there sure is!! Now we can get explanations of all those "terms" we've heard.....

btw - Holly, there's a saying in the gym that from Christmas to mid-Feb is when people go to the gym. They want to get slim for the Christmas Parties, and can "eat as much as they like" cuz they've "pre-lost" the weight, then they continue until Feb because of the "New Year's Resolutions" and then the interested drops off. Then the gym gets "back to normal" with those that go there all year round.
I think everyone has a "season" they want to go for (bikini season?), but if they don't keep it up, they end up like me - putting the weight back on. *Blush*
I need to keep going............. heck, right now I need to start again!!!!!! Rolling my eyes.

I was doing very well last year then a weeks Cruise that didn't do too much damage but put me back a little. After that I started on some meds that really boosted my appetite for a month or so. I had been doing fairly well getting to the gym for water aerobics which is a good exercise for me. But I rarely go in the summer just too much gardening work to do. Although I have gained back some of my lost weight but not all of it. It really isn't just the weight for me it is a matter of being healthier, stronger, and feeling comfortable. I will be going in for an injection in my knee and I hope that will make it possible for me to start walking again. I hope to get back to the gym but it looks as though I will be having shoulder surgery some time in the near future. It always seems as though there is one thing after another getting in the way. I will say that I do feel better after I leave the gym, it's just getting there that is the problem.

Gee - you're really having joint issues with your knees and shoulder, aren't you, Holly?!?!
Can't do much about the shoulder, but "they" say 5 lbs on the frame is 50 lbs on the knee, and having just lost 16 lbs, I believe it!! My knee is ever-so-much-better for having lost the weight. I can walk again (stiff, quick walk) and really had trouble with an ambling walk before. Standing for any length of time? Forget it!
But just this 1 month of losing weight, and I'm so much better that I can hardly believe it!! Diet and walking (climbing stairs too!) really is what did it. I know it strengthened my left knee a bit, but really it was the weight loss....... Thumbs up
