Vickie, what a great topic! I am not a coupon user. I tried it years ago and stuck with it for a while. Then I'd forget and leave the coupons at home, and it became a non habit. You are so right that with today's economy what it is, we need to do all we can to save money.

I've begun shopping at different stores. Everyone tells me that Market Basket has the highest prices. I'm the kind of gal that shops without lists. I can do this because I know where everything is in the store and I go down each and every aisle. I am a stocker-upper. I do make a short list when it's something I definitely don't want to forget, but for the most part, I just shop and get what I want. Everyone in my family knows that I've always got food here and plenty of it. I can make just about anything that I get a craving for. We don't take a paper any more, but do get weekly papers in our mailbox whether we want them or not. I usually toss them because they come in the day AFTER I've just been shopping. (sigh)

Check your local library to see if they clip coupons from their papers. Ours not only does that they also have a box where people can go through the coupons for what they want and put in coupons for things they don't use. If yours doesn't do this it might be a good idea to ask if they will put out a box for coupons.

Thanks Janet,I know where everything is in several stores around. Which reminds me, My local General Store completely rearrainged her store this week. When asked why,she said because whenever everyone knows where everything is, they don't buy as much as they do when searching.
Again, Like you i seldom make a list.(If i do I forget to take it.) LOL
Living on this mountain.I have to keep stocked up. I Have a large pantry that i keep filled also a freezer.
Our sales papers come on Wednesdays. The same day the sales start. but they are good for a week. I'll look and post the link to the mag websites.
Mindy, I'd never thought about the library. Thats a good idea.
Ours is abit differnt library tho. The older staff all retired and everyone there is just out of school and they don't even allow magazines anymore. They do push using computers instead of paper tho. They also have a sign up saying they will call the police if you try to donate magazines, pencils, pens or paper. So i'm sure they wont allow coupons. Might try another town library tho. The Library used to be community oriented but no longer.Anyway it's a good idea.

Don't forget to check the online coupon sites where you can print coupons and take with you. I don't do coupons myself simply because even if I take them I forget about them by the time I get to the store but I have a friend who is a fanatic about coupon clipping and she told me where to find them LOL. Someone once broke into her car at work one night and don't you know the only thing she demanded the police get back was her coupons?

My grocery store, Fry's (Krogers) has a nice coupon program...it selects thing by computer that you purchase often...and mail you a packet every month or so...it always has a freebie for something that you buy often...once I had a cupon for a bag of frozen Meatballs...so I got a $13.99 bag FREE!! Hurray!

These are always NICE coupons ...$1.00 off,,,when I see that I won't use them before the expiration date, I find a young person shopping with children and ask if they can use them...they usually are happy to have them.

One store I used to shop at had the coupon box...I wish we had it here. Jo

Hi Jo, Love that roadrunner!!
There are places on line that have downloadable coupons. I'll see if i can find some.
Our Kroger (50 miles away) has good coupons also but i don't get over there much. I'm addicted to the Kroger brand Cherry chocolate chip icecream so i go over there just for the icecream.LOL

If you have a good coupon and can't use it, when you go through the store, you could put the coupon by the product so that someone in the market can use it :). I read that somewhere a while back.

I find most coupons are for brand name products so it's always wise to check the store brand to see if that doesn't work out cheaper.

Our HEB carries a store brand that is so close to the name brands that you really don't know the difference. I've tried many different things and they have excellent quality!

I use alot of store brand items but if you watch you can use either coupons or store brand to get the better buy.

When my kids were young I really had to save coupons. Then some of the stores would double the coupon and that really saved me a lot. Then no more double coupons and I got out of the habit of saving them. Most of the coupons now are for products I don't use. I just watch for sales and go to Costco once a month to buy in bulk, like detergent & paper products. Smiling

I don't use a lot of coupons these days. Most items I buy are fruits and veggies or store brands, which are often cheaper than name brands even if I have coupons for them. There are a few specific items that I purchase that I use coupons for, and I get the coupons directly from the manufacturers.

I do watch for sales and often won't buy something unless it's on sale. I have rewards card for Big Lots and often shop when they send me a 20% off coupon; they're cheap anyway and the extra 20% off is icing on the cake. And the dollars I spend there help me earn my rewards for more discounts.

I also shop a lot at Dollar Tree. Most of you in the South are familiar with this store, where every item is $1. It's always fun when a "tourist" comes in. You can hear them say, "There aren't any price tags on anything. How much is this?" Someone will tell them that everything in the store is $1. And the tourist will ask, "Even this? And this? Well, what about this?" Someone's first time in the store is always a treat for those of us who shop there frequently. LOL

Dollar Tree- My favorite store in 3 different towns. There is seasonal stuff i could'nt get otherwise. and i love to decorate. They have an online catalog but i've never used it. They'll send it to the store you shop.
