this morning, I called a man to mow the yard to give Owen a treat and break from mowing this acre of land. He said he did mow yards for lots of people but he wouldn't for 'y'all'. He emphasized 'y'all' I am steaming!!! Just when I think there is less prejudice in the world, I get slapped down on my ass by roundheads such as this. Before he hung up on me, I was cussin' like a sailor. I'm not tactful or tolerant of these people. Maybe I should be but I don't think I have to be. No, I'm not on a spiritual plane to tolerate this and it makes me want to fight. So, I just made myself a cup of Earl Grey tea and am ruminating. Besides disbelief and anger my next thought was revenge. But that's the old Lee esp. the revenge. I'm not as understanding of these types of people as many of you might be. I'm just not. This is who I am. Anyway,' I am your very angry friend and Lee. Kevin51

Sorry you had to deal with that today. Hopefully as you tell this to people it will cost him business. The South has a long way to go......my partner is Jewish, so you can imagine the double whammy we sometimes get. When you can, let it go.

Thanks Zuzu and Neil, When I thought last week couldn't get any worse, I knocked a glass of Coke onto my compt. tower and it entered into it. Had to get the compt. guy to come and get the tower and so far he has done a good job at drying it and checking to see if all is ok. I'll hold my breath less now until I know it's ok. All is so much better this week. L. Kevin51

That is a terrible reminder how many backward attitudes are still around. So sorry you had to experience that, Lee. The only time my life has been directly effected by prejudice in this town came from a farm hand and farm manager here on the land where I live. They manage the cattle and hay fields for the elderly farm owner. They told horrible lies to the land owners about us, like they had seen wild outdoor orgies here with children watching, for one example, and made it very clear they expected us to be evicted. One is a hopeless alcoholic and the other is the most vile of rednecks. Thankfully, they're both kind of simple minded, and used our homosexuality as the main reason we should be evicted. Although they've known our landlord for several years, I guess it somehow got past them that he has a gay son and a lesbian daughter, LOL! He came to us after they approached him, to tell us to notify him immediately if we ever felt threatened by those two.

Neal, thanks for your empathy and all the others. I'm sad to have read your accounts. I so love it when what goes around finally comes around for these %^())*&__*^!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The area in which Owen and I live is in the N.E. part of Mississippi which abuts Alabama. Lots of Pentecostal and Church of God houses. Many of the women still pile their hair on their head, wear no make-up and only a wedding band. So backwards. I'm grateful I've the chance to experience wonderful places in the U.S. and know how others live. I was going to try to say I'm not intolerant of these people but that would have been a lie. I am and don't let it bother me (My intolerance that is. ). In this part of country, right at the foothills of the Appalachians is rife with these people. Well, I wasn't reared around such. I'm not meaning to come across as a snob as I don't think I am. I just discerning. Lee Kevin51

Somehow I missed this thread Kevin. That really stinks, so do those idiots where Neal lives. I don't feel any sort of moral imperative to be tolerant of the intolerant and usually tell them how despicable I find their behavior to be. If it's in a business situation, I will even report their behavior to their superiors. Businesses are so "sensitivity aware" today that they take that kind of stuff seriously and no longer sweep it under the rug. Time has gone by and the sting of those guy's words has probably ebbed, but I hope that those encounters are less frequent in your life. Everyone deserves happiness, but not at the expense of others.

Sheryl, I'll do that when it comes to slurs about myself sometimes, but not usually on anything that can lead to a hate crime. I think that maybe just calling someone's attention to how someone else views their behavior might just be enough to get them to rethink it.
