Finally got my dragon done. Whew, took a long time but here it is. I've never attempted anything like this before and I'm pleased how it turned out, seeing as its my first one. I'll post a bunch of views.

From the top down, and the bottom.

The horns, nails, teeth and skull (that it's holding) are glow in the dark clay.

It's about 7-3/4" long and 5-1/2" tall.

Wow, I am totally trippin', that is so cool! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

I cannot imagine how hard that was to handle and bake and work on, omg. Did you bake him as you went?

I think he got baked about 5 times as I worked on him. Made sure to cover it in foil so it didn't burn.

Scary, working with such a large piece, I think I would have baked as I went, too. What did you support him with?

I built a wire armature and filled in the large areas with aluminum foil. I don't think there are any places on him that have more than 1/3" thick clay. When I had areas thicker than 1/4" I put it on in layers and baked him in between.

Thank you Lynxx. I'm embarrassed to say it took me about 40 hours total. I'm not good at sculpture - I've never been able to get things in proportion so this was a real challenge for me and I had to really take my time.

yep, proportion is the tough part, but you can also let your artist eye take over, who's to say another proportion won't be awesome?
