My passion for gardening started like this.
On a visit from Florida, in April of 2007, my sister managed to stumble on my 4" rise on the concrete slab we called our back porch. She got a nasty knock on her head. The next day, she went to Home Depot and bought pavers, edgers and a few plants to dress up around the sides of it.

My little grandson,Darion, liked it alot, so he and I went and purchased a few more plants and pots to add to it. I even bought him some garden tractors and things for him to place in the beds. He was very proud of his 'little garden'.

One day shortly after that, he brought a styrofoam cup of grass home from school. It was a school project they had been working on and he wanted to plant it in our "garden".

It's in the upper left hand corner. Well, the ground underneath the pavers and all around the porch was like concrete, so we had to find another place to plant his cup of grass.

The only other place that even looked like we could plant in was under the tree you can see in the background. Excuse the photo of him here, he was tired of taking pictures.

So, we started our little tree ring garden. We collected broken pieces of slab and concrete from around the yard and we began to make a ring around the tree. Round and round we went. Then we headed off to walmart to buy plants and miracle grow soil.

You'll notice the cup of grass sitting on the rocks. He wanted it so it could be seen. :) We also moved the few plants we had in the beginning and his tractors and things to his 'new bed'. After about a month it had really started filling out.

Well, as all gardeners know, that was only the beginning. The rest of the messy yard was still there and that began our gardening.

Even with the tree garden, we still had a very long way to go.

All around me was an empty, barren yard.

But, that fact started me on a journey that I have enjoyed thoroughly.
