There's a new malware going around, and an easy way to kill it. Highlightly is a Trojan horse that causes words through out you text to be highlighted. It causes pop-up ads for any word highlighted. I got it in spite of my systems protection. It actually shows up in your add/remove programs listing, trying to remove it just locked up this function on my machine. If you do an in depth search of all files and folders, select all under edit, and delete under file, this should kill it. You will be surprised that there may be 6-8 files infected that need deleted. This has worked for me a couple of times and has saved a trip to the shop.

Eric, there's one program I highly recommend to all my clients, Malwarebytes AntiMalware. Free version is reactive while the paid version is proactive. For those of my clients that seem to attract malware like nothing I've ever seen, this program cuts infections down drastically. Best of all its (the Pro version) a one time fee of less than $25.00. A bargain in anyone's book.

I'm with AVG and have never had a problem in years. Best of all, their free Antivirus protection is proactive.
