Amaryllis/Hippeastrum: Hippeastrum (Amaryllis) Database
| Hippeastrum have been hybridized for over two hundred and there are now several hundred cultivars of hippis and the list keeps growing. Many amaryllis are winter hardy to zone 7 with some protection. They die to the ground in freezing weather and come back from the bulb in the spring. Amaryllis flowers come in several colors, shapes and flower positions. When adding to the database you may skip those items you are not sure of. Someone will fill them in later. Before you post a picture to the database go through the files and make sure your cultivar of Hippeastrum has not already been posted. If it is posted you can click on it and post your picture and comments on the already existing thread. Options are at the bottom of the entry page. Bloom sizes are general, running from Pamela(small) to Benfica(large). Consider the sonatinis miniature. |
