![]() Hoya cumingiana, lacunosa 'poonsak' and rotundifolia from Gardinos. You have to click on picture to see whole thing.Big pot in the back is an orchid. Lacunosa has cute, tiny leaves. Finally got a lacunosa. Questions- Does it (lacunosa)like warm and humid outside or staying cool indoor? Flowers same size as other 'regular' laconosa or smaller ? Any more tips? |

Alka My lacunosas grow like crazy in the greenhouse - warm and humid and mostly shaded. They turn yellow if they get too much sun. Also, keep them evenly moist, but not soaking wet.

Thanks Doug. I am worried a bit though since I find that I am not very good with plants requiring even moisture. Have killed couple of orchids and Hoyas that needed even moisture. I will be more careful this time.

Alka...in my experience, all the H. lacunosa flowers are relatively the same size except for one from David Liddle labeled 'Giant'...but we aren't talking BIG!! just about 10% bigger. Poonsak has longish narrow leaves...I am growing a pot of all of the clones outside and I find they all have started looking the same!!!! Leap. The net will appear.

I read somewhere that speckled ones eventually revert to plain or with minimal specks. I was so confused which one to get but then decided to get whatever was available. I would like to get one with pinkish blooms one day......and stick it in the same pot.

Well...perhaps that happened to them, but it hasn't happened to me across the board. Sometimes it happens, as it happens with most species. I have had some lose specks, gain them, lose them again....change size of leaves etc. - those are all variables within the Type and within the variable. Leap. The net will appear.

Carol, just curious to know- Do you have 'Ruby Sue' and 'Royal Flush' also? Do they revert to green ?
|

I have found that my 'speckled' ones stay that way. I have one that I received as 'alba' and I have to say that the leaves on it are mostly white. It is just a little cutting about 6 inches long so it has not bloomed but the leaves are really pretty. I wonder it it might be the one called 'eskimo' but either way the new leaves on it have not started reverting. I have found that 'poonsak' leaves are very small, is that true or just because it is a new little plant? Can't wait for the blooms on it. Alka, sunrise has the pinkish blooms and tove is more lavender than pink at least for me. My royal flush blooms were always the same as other lacunosa's but the leaves were beautiful. It got a bad case of the mealies this past winter and died. I found that one to be a real mealy magnet. Dee

Alka, I don't know if the hoya I have is Ruby Sue or Royal Flush as it was sent as a cutting from a friend in Thailand who collected it in the mountains. It has red new growth, very deep green leaves with a hint of red and heavy speckling and they have stayed that way now for 4 years. If I grew it in more sun or higher light, the red would probably show up more. Dee, the Poonsak I got (from Liddle) has narrow leaves about 2-2.5 inches long with minor speckles. There is another clone called 'Lankawi Island' which has very small narrowish leaves. Leap. The net will appear.
