| i have a very sandy area directly behind the house where not much will grow, so it's become my pond/bog/container garden area. the smaller blue tubs are plastic 55 gallon drums that are cut in half and buried, i've planted lotus in each of them. the pond will be small, only 6x8, but it's my first ornamental pond so small is okay. it'll have probably just one mini water lily and a few gold fish. the bog is a 6 foot kiddie pool that has a few holes drilled in the bottom and then 4 inches up and all the way around the side, about 4 inches apart. my plan is for all the plants to stay there over the winter. i'll be mulching it with pine needles in a few days. i'm open to suggestions for other bog occupants. i'll also have a few raised tubs for tropical water lilies, those will be overwintered in the greenhouse.
