Your "gourmet club" reminds me of the "Happy Hour" all of Rick's friends used to participate in. For years everyone would get together once a month on a Friday night right after work. Mostly just snacks and drinks but everyone contributed and it was just a quick get together after a long work week and most were home in time for their "real" dinner. I really enjoyed them when I moved to Virginia, it was the only way I became acquainted with a lot of the locals. I guess we're all getting older, it's been two years since anyone had a "Happy Hour".

That's the rub. In our case so many people moved away, mostly with job changes or to bigger homes in fancier neighborhoods.
In your case, maybe people are retiring and aren't going out after work anymore. I can't happy hour anymore unless I drink diet soda. It's not the same. I can't remember the last time I met someone for a drink.
It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give...
