That is a big bee!
I cleaned off my deck table, it sits a few feet away from the back door where the light is on all night and gets moths. While filling the coffeepot I noticed a cardinal going to the light, then perching on the table and eating a white moth and dropping the wings. He did it several times.
It amazes me how birds find food- always observing everywhere?

It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give...

Yep, last year it rained like crazy here, then we had a few nice warm days until the skeets were born. Skeets and gnats were so thick you couldn't go out for 2 months without breathing them in and scratching all over. Needless to say, regardless of perennial plantings, it was impossible to enjoy them. This year though, I think it is good here. It has rained regularly and moderately and while temps have spent a couple of days in the high 60s, it is still dropping down as low as into the 30s at night. Not one mosquito in sight yet! Apparently the bad news has shifted easterly....get ready!

Well, J's ahead of WI but I expect in IL that J may've suffered as we did in WI last season (very wet and early heavy heat...perfect for mosquitos, and plants tended to drown) but for us, this has been a very good spring. It seems we get moderate rain a couple of days a week and the temps have stayed pleasant with cool evenings so the nasty bugs (skeets and gnats that swarmed here last year) are at bay. After last season, I'm lovin' it! Seems it moved east this year.
Love your photos J!
