| Another gem in Pennsylvania - Longwood Gardens, is also well worth a visit by gardeners and non-gardeners alike. It's a beautiful spot in any season, with a huge Conservatory, and expansive grounds, lots of room for the kids to run around, and spots to sit and enjoy the vistas, plus a wonderful bookstore/garden shop, a very nice cafe and an upscale restaurant for meals. Unlimited parking as well. My goal this year is to visit it at least once during every season. I hope anyone else who's visited and taken photos will share them here too. Here's their website: http://www.longwoodgardens.org/ These photos were all taken during a visit in early March 2009, which happened to be during their annual Orchid Show. Views as you enter the through the East Conservatory - a wonderful place to be on a cold late-winter day! ![]() ![]() Taken from the other end of the vista, looking back toward the entrance, and a close-up of the large pink orchid stabile, with potted orchids hanging from it. ![]() In the Main Conservatory, the Orangery has lots of open green space bordered with beautiful standards and massed plantings, while the Exhibition Hall with its water features, always makes a delightful spot to sit a while, and enjoy the sounds of the water and the reflections. ![]() In the West Conservatory, the Silver Garden is not to be missed, and the Acacia Passage is a narrow passageway lined with feathery foliage and hanging baskets. ![]() Breathe in, Breathe out...Move on - Jimmy Buffett |

| Also in the East Conservatory area is a charming Children's Garden, which has amazing water and sound features, and areas for the little ones to explore on their own. It's also fun for adults! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Breathe in, Breathe out...Move on - Jimmy Buffett |

More photos taken in the "rooms" in the Conservatory - trust me, you could spend hours here! ![]() ![]() Gigantic hanging ferns in the Fern Passageway, with people in there for perspective. ![]() Breathe in, Breathe out...Move on - Jimmy Buffett |

In addition to the "rooms" and wide open spaces, there are many beautiful plants and flowers that can only be appreciated up close as you stroll along the paths. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Breathe in, Breathe out...Move on - Jimmy Buffett |

Finally, at least for now, some tropicals and the rare Blue Poppy, Meconopsis 'Lingholm' - its color has to be seen to be believed. We were very lucky it was in bloom during our visit. ![]() ![]() Breathe in, Breathe out...Move on - Jimmy Buffett |

![]() Th treehouseswere fairly new when we went. I guess they are still there? Really intersting. Everybody wanted to 'chuck it all' and come live in a tree house. | Yes, the tree house was still there when I went in May one year, but it has been a few years. I think it's a permanent installation. It was really FUN wasn't it? Like you said, lots of the adults in the group were saying "I could live here..." Breathe in, Breathe out...Move on - Jimmy Buffett |

| Barb, Just got around to viewing this. I just love Longwood and have never been there for the Orchid show. What a beautiful place. Thanks for the tour. I loved your flower close up collages, how do you make them? Life is Great! | Thanks, Holly - I don't actually go specifically for the Orchid Show, it's a timing thing - my good friend and I stop there after going to the Philadelphia Flower Show. But it sure is spectacular, no matter when. Flower close up collages? Are you talking about the 4 photos with the hibiscus & poppies? It's just a matter of spacing the photos after you upload them. For example, upload all 4 pictures, then make sure there are no spaces between the lines of text for the first two. Hit "Enter" to move the second set down a line, and make sure there are no spaces between them either. USUALLY it works out - you can do at least 4 in a row per line, maybe more, I haven't tried that yet. You can always check in "Preview" before hitting "Finished". However, while looking back to see what you might mean, I noticed that my messages with larger numbers of photos, which were 3 in a row when I posted, have now become 2, then 1, then 2 - all asymmetrical, which is frustrating, because that's NOT how I posted them. Off to see if I can fix them so they STAY fixed. Breathe in, Breathe out...Move on - Jimmy Buffett |

| I was talking about the flower pics that are 3 in a row. I was thinking they were a collage didn't realize that they were just posted that way. I like having close ups as well as the long garden shots. I can't imagine having enough energy to head to Longwood after the Phila. Flower Show. Life is Great! | Oh - same thing, just 3 in a row instead of 2 or 4. But that's how you do it - and most of the time it stays that way. Sorry I wasn't clear - NO WAY could we do Philadelphia AND Longwood on the same day. Breathe in, Breathe out...Move on - Jimmy Buffett |
