Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing SO TRUE BOTH Holly and Ric! our whole house is pretty much decorated in " Live with this, cuz I don't know what I like" style !

Yes if you have room for the concealed trash, its big plus. How many times I have been asked to move while washing dishes, for the under sink trash. Our current bin for our mixed recycle is a tall hamper under the counter height kitchen table.

Oh guess what Sears HQ called and said they might be able to offer me a special price- (since I did not sign up right away) Imagine that- the ''no negotiating'' (per the sales rep) deal turns out not to be the final offer after all.

My friend with the local remodel said she had reps tell her they charge to come to the house to do an estimate. Lowes, 75$ to come to the house for actual measuring, applied to the order if you order though.

Yes I think you're right about do it now counter. Whats another 1500 dollars...

That's what I say Rolling on the floor laughing

I think HD charges for an estimate too then applies it if you use them Thumbs down

I'll give you the link for the butcher-block company we used. I found them the most reasonable for what we needed. Great if you are going to do it yourself and lots of sizes, free shipping and no sales tax to consider. http://www.kitchensource.com/kau/welcomebutcher.htm

For our island we bought a piece of the BB and got two unfinished cabinets at HD for the base, really turned out nice. We can sit on one side and the end.

Thanks luvs. More to ponder, very pretty. I can picture those with your painted cabinets. They don't come especiaaly cheap though. Nothing worth having usually does.

I saw two lowes guys yesterday who had just finished assembling two small island in a box sort of islands (you buy and assemble) with a block like top. Both tops were warped, they were looking at them and shrugging over it. Cheapo crap.

Do you guys use your drawers for food storage? The latest design suggestion has so many drawers I wonder if it's overkill, or if you adapt to putting more things in drawers.

It also has the over fridge cabinet which extends all the way to the front of the fridge. Do you have that, or thn its a good idea? I might get the cereal eaters here to stick the cereal in there, instead of having boxes on top of the fridge.

I use my over fridge for some dry goods, pastas, egg noodles and such. A couple of current use cereal boxes and open chips usually call the area in front of the cabinet home. *Blush*

Yes we do and it looks messy. We have over the fridge cabinets but they set back pretty far. I would think cabinets that come out to the front of the fridge would be pretty deep. Wonder if things would get lost in the back. Confused

Mine comes out to the edge of the fridge, gets used for napkins and stuff like that. I have snax in one drawer and everyday things like peanutbutter, coffee, croutons....in another.

I'm planning this 'laminate' stone look flooring
http://www.flooringselect.com/Mohawk-Floorings-Earthworks-Co...

East install, durable, easy clean, approx 3.50 to 4$ per SF
And thinking whether to use a couple colors and do a pattern. They only have one tile size, '16 " ' and I want to sketch and see if it feels clunky.. My planned cabinet choice is maple w beadboard and I'm thinking a 'quilted' floor would be kinda neat along with the casual cottage feel of beadboard.- Or would a patterend floor become dated? Cabinet booklets show very few patterend floors, but of course they want you to look at the cabinets in the picture, not the floors.

Sally, the tile on my kitchen floor has the same "patterned" look and was done fairly recently.

Any chance you have a picture handy? Big Grin
I'm playing with tiny pictures and a table to see how the 'pattern' looks, with scale and shades

Sally I have seen some very nice 'laminate' stone look flooring. I don't know anything about how well it holds up but I do think it looks pretty.

Thanks Teri. Hey I just realized Ronnie added a photo to the first post Whistling

Can a floating floor of click together laminate be laid over the whole floor, then cabinets put on top? That seems easier than trying to work around the peninsula later.

Sally, You can lay the whole floor 1st, in many cases it makes it easier to keep everything a uniform height, such as when laying ceramic with backboard and such. Ric

Actually, Sally, I added Ronnie's photo to the first post; you know that we love to have thumbnails for all of our threads! Big Grin If you'd prefer to add one of your own, let me know and I can delete that one for you.

THanks Ric!

Heck no Barb, I like luvs picture!

I went back to the flooring place where I could see samples, and ordered 'one' box of a warm brown one. Such a decision! So we can lay it out and see it here. If I change my mind on color, I can use these underneath the cabinets.
