| I miss the days when it was safe for kids to walk for miles while exploring and playing during the day. In summer my friends and I would get season passes to the beautiful salt water pool at Palisades Amusement Park in Cliffside Park, NJ (town where I lived). We would walk about 2 miles to get there and 2 miles back. About 20 kids laughing, pushing, running and singing as we went. I also miss the Sundays of my childhood. My grandfather's yard was the meeting place for dinner, drinks (plenty of wine), mandolin and accordian playing, singing and bocci ball competition. He had a bocci court in the side yard. I can remember that when the boxes with the bocci balls would come out, I would start crying and my dad would sooth me and cradle me in his arm. Those guys would really get heated up during the game. They would point at the balls and SHOUT and argue about the placement of the balls. I thought that they were really angry and would be getting violent next. I was wrong. They quieted down until the next round then started the rucus all over again. |
