| Dear Nancy, I have no experience of American pit bulls at all. Over here they are under the dangerous dogs act by law and must be muzzled and on a lead if out on the street but they should not be in-bred or allowed to fight as that is illegal as well. Most terriers with training are meant for a job like border terriers who are very hardy to the cold and work up north on farms, and of course fox terriers who do what they are supposed to do and wipe out foxes. However if they are correctly trained which most of them are they are not aggressive towards people only the things they hunt like rats etc. The main problem is was showing dogs as they tried to get them to a standard for showing them which has spoiled a lot of breeds. I had an original English Jack Russel with long hair and she lived till she was 21 and was a diamond, now there is but 400 of them left which is very sad as they are fantastic animals. Over here if you have a pit bull and it kills another dog or cat they will put the animal down, although it is not the animals fault, for it is the owners fault. If you train them well they don't do that so I cannot understand why people do not do it, for I cannot stand untrained dogs or children! Neil. |
