There are now 11 people in this group, and to do this we can now have TWO groups of 5 (I will simply do 2 centers.......). We actually Could add one more person to Group One, if you know of someone, or if you'd like to belong to the larger group 2, or the smaller group 1, please let me know and I'll "rearrange" the groups.

This group is now closed to any new members - We have 2 groups going consequently for a really nice sized quilt.
At the end of April 2013 we will each end up having a large Lap Quilt.

As this is a "multi-site" group project, I will be adding postings between the two sites.
Please bear with me as people may post faster than I can copy/paste. Rest assured though, that we will all get our quilts!
Note: - it has been decided by a majority of members to extend the size of each round / border, so I will be updating the sizes once members have a say in what they think the new sizes should be (not 2" for them.......)

Here's a sample of another group's Round Robin in Blue

BettyPauze (Betty)
Diamond919 (Anita)
Mitzy (Mittsy)
Anjlsmom (Pat)
BarefootT (Thunder)
Lavonne (Dorothy)
Cheriffic (Cher)

End date for all the lap quilts to be back to the originator is one year from the date this thread was started - April 22, 2013
We are re-vamping the size of the borders (as per request by members of the group. Please 'stay tuned' for the change. In the meantime, you can still make your center.

Here are the directions.
1st round-start with a 15 1/2"x24 1/2" inch unfinished center-everyone sends theirs to the next person on the list
2nd round -everyone adds a 2"border to the quilt they are sent. Send to next person on list.
3rd round - everyone adds a 3" border and sends to the next person
4th round - everyone adds a 4" border
5th round - everyone adds a 5" border
6th round - everyone adds a 4" border and then sends back to the next person on the list who will actually be the maker of the center (the owner).

As you finish a round, the next person on the list will always be consistent, you'll be sending each quilt to the same person. So by the time you finally get to the last round, you'll have worked on the quilt that belongs to the person you've sent to all along.
Each round can be appliquéd, pieced, plain fabric or embroidered if you wish. It's up to you to decide what you can do and what you think goes well with the center.

Group One:
1. Susan (sends to Linda Kay)
2. Linda Kay (sends to Barb)
3. Barb (sends to Audrey)
4. Audrey (sends to Betty)
5 Betty (sends to Cher)
6. Cher (sends to Susan)

Group Two
1 Susan (sends to Mitsy)
2 Mittsy (sends to Pat)
3. Patsends to Thunder
4 Thunder (sends to Dorothy)
5 Dorothy (sends to Anita)
6 Anita (sends to Susan)

As of Oct 23, 2012 - Dorothy is unable to continue. Anita is doing her own and Dorothy’s. Dorothy will still get her center of course.

When the originator receives the quilt top back, it is up to them if they want to embellish it, or extend it to be larger.
You can choose to stay within a color scheme or theme such as Christmas or do only red/whites, or do a makers' choice. The sky is the limit and it's such a treasure to get back your quilt and see all the wonderful work everyone from your group has put into the quilt.

I've made another thread to post work in progress".
For those of you who want to be surprised, we will not post the top as we go along.
Here is the thread for the "work in progress"

It sounds good to me. Are there preferences such as round two is applique or round 5 is pieced? Do we send fabrics that we have used on the round we did with the quilt to be used by the other quilters or the owner when she/he gets it back? Just throwing out thoughts here......
I'd like to be a part of this one..

I've added you to the list - Thank you, Barb!

Barb - not everyone will want to do Applique, so I don't think that is a valid "round 2 is applique", however if person c likes to do a particular type of quilting, or sashing, or applique, then theirs would be that.
This means that Person C (for instance) might do a row 2 on one quilt, row 3 on another quilt, and row 4 on yet another quilt......etc.

I'd like a "vote" on whether we'd be sending preferred fabric with our quilt, or relying on each other's colour choices or sizes.

I would prefer to send a bit of fabric with mine. I liked it when I saw my fabrics used on the outside rows of the quilts I showed you. It carries the eye and shows continuity. It doesn't need to be a large piece of fabric....

Post it in the crafty cubit, you may get several volunteers? If too many, we can get several groups going.

oh Audrey, of course! You need to be sure of your health first.

btw - I fully expect this will take approximately a year, as "life happens" and with the creation, mailings, etc, people aren't going to get this done in a major hurry....... we're going to enjoy the process as well as the end result. We have an end date, as updated above.

Love forgives all wrongs.
I want to join but I have a couple of questions. How do you figure how much fabric you will need for the round? I understand sending a piece of fabric for continuity (sp). Are you sending an example of what type of pattern design you would like or is the next person expected to buy that fabric? I'm not a skilled quilter, appliques may be stretching my abilities. LoL Can the 24.5 inch square be one piece of fabric that you like?

Not sure what you mean by 24 1/2 inch square? I was thinking if we each did a 2 1/2 inch widths, then it would be a 2" finished sashing, and as to the length - it would change with each addition of course. I'm not great with math, so I put an example below, for my 15" center (I haven't chosen one, so not sure What my center would be!)
The center you do is entirely up to you as to how you want it to look.

If I were to do a 15" center, then the first round would be 15" x 2.5" (2 of) and 19" x 2.5" (2 of), the 2nd round would be 17 1/2" x 2.5" (2 of) and 21 1/2" x 2.5 (2 of), and the 3rd round would be 21 x 2.5", (2 of) and 23" x 2 .5 (2 of). The 4th round would be 27x 2.5 (2 of) and 31x2.5 (2 of), the 5th round would be 31"x2.5" (2 of) and 35"x2.5" (2 of).

This increase would mean that 2 sides match the piece you were sent, and the other 2 sides would be increased by the 4" you add next (hence you have a square around it.)

As you can see, with the large 15" center, the longest a piece I would need for it is less than a yard (meters are 39", in Canada.......)
So, if we're all doing the same size of quilt, and same size of sashing (2" finished) then this equation works for a 15" center. I May have missed some 1/4 seaming (x2 would be 1/2" seams total) so feel free to correct my math, as it Was Not my major *Blush* Rolling on the floor laughing

Of course this is for a 15" center and the sizes change if you have a 7" or 16" center.
Can you picture it?

Yikes, I don't know, have to think on it for a bit.

You know with the finished size you will have, it could be done in Christmas colors for a tree skirt or in what ever you choose and be finished into a table cover either for a holiday or to match your decor.

That's why I told Anita to Google the images, so she could get an idea of how they can look finished.

I looked on Google too, and I think they were all considering bed sized, because they were speaking about 18 to 24" centers, or larger....... They were also speaking about 4" sashing...
Everyone picked the same size, so when fabric was sent (either pre-cut OR a fat quarter), everyone sent the same amount.

BIG question - What size does everyone want - Need A Vote - Lap quilt, Wall hanging, or Bed sized (queen?!)
That needs to be determined First.
Then we need to figure out the center size from That.
Center to be 24" or larger? 4" sashing, or 2"? (this will depend on what size you want the finished piece to be)

So, unless there are other questions, I will leave it for the group to vote - please either post here, or C-mail me.
the 19" center, with 5 (on each side) 2" sashes, gives a 35" finished piece.
A 24" center, with 2" sashings, makes a 44" finished piece
a 24" center with 4" sashings makes a 64" finished piece, etc.

btw - IF an originator of the center piece wants to embellish (applique, add more sashing for a bed quilt, etc), the group would need to be agreeable
