“Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel.”

May this week be special for all of us as we reflect on the last days of Jesus life.

I will be posting each day here in the chatting thread about the days activities to the best we know it.

"On the Sunday before his death, Jesus began his trip to Jerusalem, knowing that soon he would lay down his life for the sins of the world. Nearing the village of Bethphage, he sent two of his disciples ahead to look for a donkey with its unbroken colt. Jesus instructed the disciples to untie the animals and bring them to him.

Then Jesus sat on the young donkey and slowly, humbly, made his triumphal entry into Jerusalem, fulfilling the ancient prophecy in Zechariah 9:9. The crowds welcomed him by waving palm branches in the air and shouting "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!"

On Palm Sunday, Jesus and his disciples spent the night in Bethany, a town about two miles east of Jerusalem. In all likelihood, Jesus stayed in the home of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus, whom Jesus had raised from the dead."

Jesus Enters Jerusalem

12 On the next day the large crowd who had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel.” 14 Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written, 15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.”

Thank you, Becky. I see the graphics on Facebook, but I am glad you are posting them here, too. Our Bible study at church is going through Matthew 26, 27 and 28 which, appropriately enough at this time, is the story of the crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus. Plus, tonight (Palm Sunday night) at 8 p.m. CDT The Passion of the Christ will be shown on the UP channel. It is Channel 338 on DirecTV. I have seen it before but my DH has not so we will definitely be watching.
Thanks again, Becky, for all that you do here on Heart Strength as well as on Facebook. Group hug Lovey dubby

Let's move on as we follow Jesus on His last week.

Last night, on Palm Sunday, Jesus and his disciples spent the night in Bethany, a town two miles from Jerusalem. It is thought that Jesus stayed in the home of His good friends Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. (Mark 11:11)

On Monday, Jesus was on His way back to Jerusalem when He cursed the fig tree because it failed to produce fruit. He was on his way back to Jerusalem when he saw the tree and went to it, hungry, but it was barren. It is interesting to me that Jesus could easily have made fruit appear just as He fed the masses from a few fish and loves of bread. But He chose not to and instead cursed the tree. This could be symbolic that real faith should bear spiritual fruit in the believers life.

(There are several views of what this means and I won't get into the various opinions here. If you are interested, Google Jesus and the fig tree and you will find many opinions.)

Moving on, Jesus went to the Temple with some of his disciples and confronted the money changers, tossing over their tables and moving them out of the Temple. In Luke 19:46 Jesus said “It is written, ‘And My house shall be a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a robbers’ den.” (NASB)

On Monday evening Jesus stayed again in Bethany and most likely it was again n the home of his good friends, Mary, Martha, and Lazarus.

Each of the Gospels have the story in the Temple but my personal favorite is Matthew 21:12-22 (NASB)

12 And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves. 13 And He *said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer’; but you are making it a robbers’ den.”

14 And the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that He had done, and the children who were shouting in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they became indignant 16 and said to Him, “Do You hear what these children are saying?” And Jesus *said to them, “Yes; have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies You have prepared praise for Yourself’?” 17 And He left them and went out of the city to Bethany, and spent the night there.

So our question today is do we bear fruit and do we honor the house of the Lord?

Good questions for us all to ponder, Becky!
One question I would like to add about Palm Sunday and the "Triumphant Entry": Have you ever wondered about who it was that furnished the donkey for Jesus to ride upon? We don't know the person's name and we don't need to know, really, because God did not see fit to prompt the writer to include the person's name when the story was written down. However, I like to think that the donkey's owner was perhaps one of those "silent servants" who had a reward waiting for them when they got to Heaven. I also have wondered if the person who loaned the use of the donkey was perhaps one of the many people who Jesus healed during His time on earth. It's just a bit of food for thought. . .

So our question today to ponder is do we bear fruit?

"The fruits of the spirit are:" But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."
Galatians 5:22-23

Marilyn, I love to think and reflect on the details of the day. Yours is a great reflection. It is those "silent servants" as you called them who are so important to all of the stories of the entire Old and New Testament.

Thank you Becky for this thread and the inspiration it brings. I love this season of the True Passover Lamb, even with the violence and hatred recorded within the scriptures. We watched the "Passion" film on television last night, and it was almost impossible not to feel the pain, agony and suffering that He endured for us. If any of you have seen this you will know the horrible treatment He accepted for us the sinners. I can never thank Him enough for His great gift of salvation. I know I'm jumping ahead of the chronological events of the week, and I hope not to spoil it for others.

I am mostly over on ATP when I have time, but this topic is dear to my heart. Thanks to all who contribute to the discussion.
I was country back when it really was.

Leon, thanks for jumping in here. We all feel the same as you, that this time is the most important of our Christian faith. Without Jesus death on the cross for our salvation, we would not ever be able to spend eternity with God.

It's okay to jump ahead. We are always doing that here and on ATP. Big Grin

You will love love love this. It's only a little more than 4 minutes long.

It is a mural Ron DiCianni painted and his story about it. Oh my. Chills!

And he shares the story of how he painted the mural and the symbolism in it will bless you.
