Here is the Trashy to Treasures Forum.

Make yourself at home and show us some of your cool treasure scores.

This thread was originally in the Dumpster Diving Forum. I am doing some maintenance on this cubit and hope you will excuse the rearranging.

Yeah, I'm a Dumpster Diver and a Thrift Store shopper too. I've gotten many great things off the side of the road. I'll see if I can find some photos. In the meantime, please make yourselves at home here and share your glorious finds!

My whole house and closet came from Goodwill or from someplace else.

It's funny how I'll start a "theme" and for months when I shop everything just falls into place. I'm sure God is a dumpster diver because he puts things in my path all the time! :-) (said with the utmost respect, of course!)

Connie and I have a "bailiwick" that includes the 2 Goodwill stores here in Beaumont, The Treasure House (put on by a local church), The Salvation Army, the Goodwill stores in Lumberton and also Port Neches. If we're feeling really adventurous we head up to Silsbee after Lumberton and "do" the Goodwill store there. Once those places are done, it's time to go home. We used to go several times a week, but nowadays, try to limit ourselves to once a week. Neither of us needs a thing.

The other day we were in one of the stores and I looked at Connie with her empty arms and said, I didn't find "didly"(meaning didly squat) and without missing a beat she says to me, Is he lost? HAHAHA

It used to be the "hunt" .... well, it still is, but I'd have to get rid of something to be able to bring anything else home.

I go through stages... just recently cleaned out my closet. Took 5 HUGE garbage bags to GW one day and finished cleaning it out the next day and took another 3 Huge Bags. Mostly clothes and shoes and comforters. There's actually floor space in my walk in closet now!!!!

Why do I buy so much stuff???

I'm always looking for "new" books to read. And I already told the ladies at the counter not to sell me any more dishes. That is, unless I bring some in to them first.

my goodwill is no good. so, i had to resort to other places. have THE best 2nd hand clothes store in the nation, right down the street from me. i have resorted to traveling to other towns for goodwill shopping! now, i understand about the closet situtation. i have two in dire straights. i am ashamed, but i could equip haiti with the stuff i have in storage.

I couldn't put another thing in that closet without everything getting really wrinkled. So when I decided to clean it out, I took out each item and said to myself, "Would I choose you to wear?" Now, on Mondays when Goodwill has 50 cents for certain color tags, I ask myself that same question. Just because it looks good on a hanger doesn't mean it's gonna look good on me. And just because it's 50 cents, doesn't mean I have to have it!

The Goodwills around here aren't the best either so I usually resort going to the St Vincent De Paul when I can catch it open. They closed our salvation Army store down :(((((((((((.

Every now and then Connie and I plan a trip to Houston and Pasadena. We'll spend the whole day over there at the thrift stores. Pasadena has a whole lot (like 10 if I remember right, right on one road.... yeah, it's a loooong road!) There are several Goodwill SELECT Stores in Houston that we enjoy going to. It's like the Dillards of Goodwills. Lots of high end stuff. Connie even bought a Dyson Animal there (cool vacuum) very reasonable.

Our parents always shopped at thrift stores and so we've always been bargain hunters.

Hi, my name is Staci and I am a yard-sale-aholic. I LOVE yard sales. In the summer, I schedule my vacation days to attend townwide yardsales. My favorite townwide sale is about 1 hour from my home, but it is well worth the trip. Nearly everything in my home was purchased at a yardsale. Right now I am sitting at my computer desk that I picked up at a yardsale FOR FREE. I am looking around my livingroom and I see the following things that were all purchased at yardsales. My lamp, african violet planter, ceramic hummingbirds, birdhouses, pencil holder, several Home Interiors pictures, curtains, wicker baskets, chairs, couch, end tables, desk lamp, wall shelves, houseplants, candles, and so much more. Almost everytime someone asks me where I got something, I say "at a yardsale".
I am not a big thrift shop shopper. I do like to hit the local GoodWill stores once in a while, but yardsales are my passion.
Do you think you guys can 'help' me? LOL
