It sure has been cold. Hopefully mine will all come back. I sure don't want to have to start from scratch again.

Not all those who wander are lost.
Hi!
I have become a ginger freak. Unfortunately I know nothing about them, I have a few and not sure what some of them are and due to cold winter and now dry summer they are just sitting there not growing yet. I will be watering and fertilizing more now. I do have 2 that grow great but never bloom. they are a mystery to me. I will sometime post a picture when they get nice and healthy again.
What is the kind you eat the root from? That is what I want someday.
I do have one spiral ginger that is indestructible as it has survived and bloomed without care for years!
Carol, loved the ginger pictures on the map of your land!

MANY of the Hedychiums can be heavily mulched in the winter and they survive....I saw a yellow butterfly ginger in Portand Oregon that was beautiful.

My son lives in Portland but is not into plants...I am not sure he is mine?
Seems from what he said in normal years the climate is rather mild in that part
of Oregon but that is from a boy's point of view, if you get my drift.

My wife is from Portland OR and they have the same hardy zone as we do here in east Texas, 8a. This last Winter we had snow three times and then we hit 100 in May. I wonder what it would be like to live in a place that has four seasons?

I see this is another cubit. Do you also do coops like mamajack? I am looking for a rare tropical, I am having a senior moment right now but will post when I remember it. I had one but died from the cold. they grow wild and hawaii and bought it from Florida. Do I need to be a member to posts here? Bellie

Hello Carol. Crazy weather here. We got about 8 inches of snow on Sunday and now are stranded in for a few days. I hope my gingers survive....

The Tropics and Tropicals

Tropics and Tropicals is about living, growing, and simply loving the tropics and tropical plants. I urge anyone to let me know about a tropic they would like to discuss and we will make it happen.
