Viola tricolor

As a small child my mother gave me a packet of Johnny Jump Up seed. I still remember the wonder of watching them germinate, grow and bloom. I believe that is when my love of plants started.

I love the viola too Lynn. Little ladies jumping around. I had many when I was in Paris. They loved the poor and sandy soil and were self seeding all around. Do you seed them every year and do they return by themselves?

I do nothing with them, they take care of themselves and reseed every where, including the strawberry pot in the left photo. What a wonderful surprise to see it yesterday. They keep changing their colors as new seedlings come up. They must cross pollinate very easily. The leaves in front of the viola in left photo are some kind of poppy that is coming up everywhere. I received seeds in a trade 2 years ago, scattered them that winter. Last spring they came up and bloomed off and on all summer. I now have them coming up every where. I do not know how the seeds can travel so far, even to the front yard. Wonder if birds are carrying them? I love them, they are very easy to pull up if you do not want them growing in that spot.

Birds and ants Lynn. Ants are doing a great job with seeds. Here the garden is closed by surrounding walls and primroses are growing in it and I also have a digitalis growing in a wall (and returning each year=. I will post about that.
Nice violas.

C. Aquilegia are so hard to identify. I wonder if your aquilegia is one from the Clemantines series? Maybe a Winky?

I don't have any Clementine but I have quite a few aquilegia C. Some are recognized named varieties but alot are seedlings from my friend Birdies and they have names like #57 and I no longer remember those numbers Hilarious!

The only named auiliegia are aquilegia alpina; aquilegia yellow queen, aquilegia vulgaris and aquilegia negra. Birds never brought me seeds in the garden but last year I received different seeds from friends.
I love them. Please let us have pictures of yours when blooming.
Thank you

Las year I got Aquilegia seeds from different friends of mine. Most of them are about to bloom. The buds are amazzing. Tulips are fading - even if some of them are just opening and Aquilegia and irises are on their way. Some today shots from my last year mystery seeds.
