Featured Artisan ~ Dolcie Crawford ~ DeeCee's Wire Wonders

By Janet Colvin (UniQueTreasures) on April 28, 2010

Dolcie wire wraps jewelry. I've never seen anything like the intricate designs and passion that Dolcie puts into her creations. I hope you will enjoy getting to know her and enjoy her beautiful jewelry as much as I do.

I'd like to introduce you to Dolcie Crawford. Dolcie has been such a blessing to me in so many ways.  I was wandering around on Cubits one night and ran across some of her wire wrapped jewelry.  If you don't know what that means, she takes strands of wire and encases beautiful stones with the wires.  I've seen quite a few pieces of wire wrapping jewelry and owned some myself since I began making jewelry several years ago, but I've never seen anything with the intricate designs and passion that Dolcie puts into her creations. I'm sure you'll agree that her work is outstanding!  Her personality is just as beautiful as she is.

I wrote to Dolcie and asked her if she would post some of her beautiful designs in the Artisan's Nook.  She and I wrote back and forth and got to know one another some.  She was kind enough to share with me how to increase the exposure to the Artisan's Nook through Facebook with something called Link Love.  I had just recently started a Fan Page on Facebook for the Artisan's Nook to try and draw some traffic to my cubit.  That night in the middle of March I had a grand total of 38 "fans" on my Facebook page.  Thanks to Dolcie's advice and suggestions, I now have over 225 "fans" in a little over 6 weeks.  During that time I've "met" some of the best of the best artists across the world.  My eyes have been opened to a great group of folks that "share the love" through their links to their businesses.

You can read more about Dolcie's Link Love Success at this link.  (Scroll down to March 25, 2010)

"I have been wire wrapping for about 5 years now. When requested, I do give classes in wire wrapping, crochet, ribbon embroidery, loom beading, sewing, and a little basics of needle tatting. We are both retired and have I decided to try to increase our small income with my jewelry sales. I have 2 sons, 3 grandchildren and 2 monster dogs. My husband, Tom and I live on an acre of land in New Mexico. We love to go camping. Tom is a recreational prospecter and I make my jewelry while he is playing in the dirt. We have been married for 45 years and are looking forward to many more. We both praise God for our many blessings, including the many friends I have met, and will meet, here. Thank you all for your interest and God Bless."

Let me share with you some of Dolcie's work. All photos in this article are the property of Dolcie Crawford.  Please do not copy or share these photos. I am sharing them here with Dolcie's persmisson.  Most of these items are for sale in Dolcie's Etsy Shop Dolcie prices her items very reasonably.

"All jewelry is handmade wire wrapped and most are one of a kind. My Tree of Life and Faith Pendants have no wires around the outer frame to detract form the design. I make sure all wires are smooth to protect your skin and clothing."

One of a Kind, Original design by DeeCee’s Wire Wonders.

Most call this the “Tree of Life”. I prefer to call it the “Tree of Life and Faith”.
As with faith, the tree grows stronger each day.
Its branches reaching upward toward heaven to receive the promises of God.
The light from the stone behind the tree represents the
Light of our Lord giving nourishment to the tree and our faith.

WIRE: .925 Argentium Sterling Silver

TREE WIRE: The tree is made with silver color and copper craft wire to keep the price reasonable.
The craft wire is slightly tarnish to give the tree a more natural look, but it can be polished to a high shine.

STONE: Fiber Optic Cat’s Eye Cabochon. The Cat’s Eye stone gets it’s name from the interesting way it refracts the light, reminiscent of a cat’s eye.

Patriotic Swirls Wire Wrapped Pendant in Sterling Silver

This handcrafted patriotic red, white and blue pendant is wire wrapped with a classic swirl pattern with a slightly altered design. You can show support for our troops every time you wear this lovely work of art.

WIRE: .925 Argentium Sterling Silver Wire. Argentium Silver is resistant to tarnish making it very low maintenance. Just clean with a soft dry cloth.

BEADS: Swarovski Crystals

COLOR: Red, White and Blue

SIZE: Approx. 2" long including bail

Chain: 18" Silver Tone

Southwest style Turquoise Wire Wrapped Pendant in Gold

Southwest sytle Turquoise Wire Wrapped Pendant in Gold
One of a kind Natural Turquoise pendant.

Wire: 14 Kt. Gold Filled Wire. Gold filled wire has 1000 more gold than gold plated wire.

Color: Green

Stone: Natural Turquoise

Size: Approx. 2 1/4" long including bail

Chain: 18" Goldtone

Double hearts seem to float above the Turquoise stone. The mine from which the stone came is unknown to me, but it is a beauty with just the right of black matrix to accent the Turquoise green color. Turquoise is a soft stone, therefore this natural stone has been stabilized. Most Natives in the Southwest believe that Turquoise brings good fortune.
Original Tree of Life in Black, Silver and Gold

Tree of Life and Faith pendant with a Black Onyx bead, .925 Argentium Sterling Silver wire (slow to tarnish) and 14 Kt. Gold Filled Wire. Gold filled wire has 1000 times more gold than gold plate.

The tree is made with gold and silver color craft wire to keep the price reasonable. The craft wire will slightly tarnish to give the tree a more natural look, but it can be polished to a high shine.

It measures approximately 2 1/2 inches from the top of the bail to the bottom of the bead and 1 3/8” across the widest part of the bead. The 18” chain is silver plate .

The design is an original by DeeCee’s Wire Wonders.

I prefer to call it the “Tree of Faith”.

Freedom Blue Brazilian Agate Pendant

Freedom Blue Brazilian Agate Pendant

This pendant is a Brazilian Agate that has been dyed blue. It is wrapped with .925 Argentium Sterling Silver Wire which is slow to tarnish and measures approximately 3” from the top of the bail to the bottom of the stone. The 18” chain is Silver plate.

The freeform style of wrapping easily flows around the stone and showers over the top. The ends have been placed so they will not tear your clothing or scratch your skin. The stone has several shades of blue ranging from Baby Blue to Navy Blue.

Antiqued Look in Emerald Green Wire Wrapped Pendant

Antiqued Look in Emerald Green Wire Wrapped Pendant

This handcrafted pendant is wire wrapped with copper wire. The wire flows over the stone to attract attention to the stone and the design. I left the copper wire slightly tarnished to give it the antiqued look. The copper wire will polish to a sparkling copper color with little effort. The Cat’s Eye stone gets it’s name from the interesting way it refracts the light, reminiscent of a cat’s eye.

WIRE: Copper

STONE: Fiber Optic Cat’s Eye Cabochon

COLOR: Emerald Green (medium)

SIZE: 1 3/4” from top of bail to the bottom of the pendant

Chain: 18” copper

Tiger Eye and Gold Wire Wrapped Pendant

Tiger Eye and Gold Wire Wrapped Pendant
This Tiger Eye and Gold pendant is adorned with curls on one side to accent the natural lines of the stone. The stones silky luster is enhanced by a handcrafted wire wrapped Gold frame.

WIRE: 14 Kt. Gold Filled Wire.
Gold filled wire has 1000 times more gold than gold plated wire.

STONE: Natural Tiger Eye Cabochon

COLOR: Earthy Browns and Rich Golds

SIZE: Approx. 1 5/8" long including bail

Chain: 18" Gold Tone
My grand daughter liked this necklace well enough to keep it. But since she worked the last show with me, she really earned it. Happy you like it Ami.
Love you♥
