My name is Janet. I am the owner of this cubit. She doesn't know it yet, but my sister Connie is the co-Administrator of this Cubit.

You may recognize me as UniQue Treasures. My sister Connie and I create Copper Sculptures from recycled materials. Some of our sculptures are at the top of this page.

The idea behind this cubit is to have a place for artists to come and show off their work and to have a central location to hang out. Be sure to visit the Cafe! I just put a fresh pot of coffee on.

I'd love to know who is visiting, so please make a post to introduce yourself.

Your comments are always welcome.

Janet

edited to add a photos of just some of our artisans.

Hi Janet!

I've drooled several times over sculptures you've had for sale. A dragonfly one really stands out for me!

I'm excited to see what else you come up with!!

Welcome Carol and Trish!

Connie and I have plans for a few new sculptures in the coming months. One is a coleus for our dear friend Alice in Sweden. The other is a 3D heart for Joann, also from the coleus forum.

My husband bought me some pneumatic shears for Christmas and we're itching to get them out to use them.

Thanks Jo and welcome!

HAHAHAHA Connie and I rarely ever work on anything without my camera being there. I love documenting what we do because once a sculpture is shipped, we can't "study" it anymore. We've even begun videotaping some of the processes.

We can thank Balvenie for giving us the encouragement and the idea to take the photos. He felt that we could perhaps encourage other artisans that were interested in working with copper.

Each time we complete a sculpture a CD with the photos goes along with the sculpture so the person receiving it will have a greater appreciation of what has gone into the creation. I also create a slide show for ourselves so we can always look back to see how we accomplished things. Sometimes we don't need to "re-learn" a particular technique into a few years later.

I never met Balvenie in person. He was quite a talented fella in so many different artistic mediums. I think about him often and it's always with a waybigo smile.

I love that photo! I'm also a huge fan of Patsy Cline's music. She was in a parade that my parents went to and they have her on one of our old family 8mm films.

And I've heard about you and chocolate, Jo. Your love of chocolate precedes you! HAHAHAHA :-)

I'm the one who had thoughts of clobbering you when I did see you, Jo...Teasing, of course. I need to dig up some of those photos.

Hi Janet,
i'm Sharon, and I have long admired your work. It's great to see you here. I'm going to be watching for more of your creations. I love them!

Like Trish, I love the dragonflies, well, they're all my favorites.

Thanks for starting the forum!

Thanks Joyce! I'll keep the photos coming as soon as we fire up the new sculptures.

This is tax season for me, so this wasn't the very best time for me to start THIS cubits thing.... but how could I resist!?!?!

HI Janet. My lovely garden nymph, Ms M, is resting out in the studio, cold but not snow covered.

I'm Kathleen, and Janet and I have a mutual admiration society. I'm into much softer materials, being a fiber artist, but we have a common thread in our work - the gardens and the great outdoors, with a few fairies and dragons thrown in for good measure.

If you want to keep Jo away from your chocolate, just tell her the main ingredient other than chocolate is RICE.

Kathleen...you are so right. I was sorting through my wee candy jar and was down to a few Hershey's kisses,,,ate them,,,then all that was left were 2 Krackle nuggets...When I read that they had rice in them...I put them aside to give to DGS!

I do like your cinnimon rolls though...Jo

Hey Kathleen! Great to see you here! I mean REALLY see you. I've been delighted to see faces with the names that I've seen for years. Cubits is full of beautiful folks. Then again, even without actually seeing them, I knew that. :-)

Kathleen I have enjoyed the beautiful quilted art that you sent me so much. Many people have commented on it. What you do is bring the fabric to life, much as Connie and I do the Copper parts. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful work.

I was just thinking to myself.... I haven't been out of the house in days. I called Connie to see what she was up to. She is doing a driver and passenger windows on a vehicle and then has the rest of the day to do whatever she wants. She is going to call me. I thought we'd go gallivanting (meaning hit up the Goodwills, etc.). Then as I was getting dressed, I thought... Hey, we could start on the Coleus Sculpture today. As long as it's not too cold in her shop.... She does have a heater in there, so it might not be too bad. The high will be in the low 50's today. Yeah, I know that's Springtime weather to you Northerners... but to us folks here in SE Texas, that's still pretty dern cool.

I'd best be getting my camera packed up.... just in case. Muahahahahaha

Janet

ps Jo, the Krackles are my least favorites of the bags too. I prefer the Special Dark Chocolates. Makes me think I'm pretty doggone special. :-) Ohhhh... and I don't mind sharing either. Let's open up a fresh bag today!
