Do you see white fabric and desire to color it in fantastic and wonderful ways? I have been changing to color of fabrics for about 5 years now and it is an ever changing and growing obsession.

The first fabric that I colored (as an adult and without the aid of Kool Aid)(and now there are people teaching dyeing with Kool Aid - I did it first!) was done with Pebeo Setacolor paints. I'm not sure how I got into it, but I believe my friend Melody had a whole lot to do with it. I still use these paints, as I'm comfortable with them and I have found multiple ways to manipulate the transparent paints using the sun and leaves and flowers and anything else that I can find.

I also use colored pencils to draw with, fabric pens of various kinds and Lumiere metallic paints.

From just painting flat fabric, I've moved into some beginner Shibori techniques with PVC pipe and nylon twine. Now, Quilting Arts Magazine December January issue has some Shibori techniques using thread to pull fabric into waves, etc. that I want to explore.

I bought a kit of Procion Dyes that I haven't dared use yet. I have some acid dye for wool that I haven't used yet. Um, I think there's a whole lot of coloring out there to be done

Anyone else?

colored pencil on cotton. this has been washed and dried - it holds pretty well.

Kathleen,

Your flowers are beautiful! That design would be beautiful in the center of a bedspread. What a wonderful way to get the print you want on a Plain Jane piece of fabric. You are definitely thinking outside the box (of colored pencils)!

Thanks for sharing this great technique. When you get brave and decide to try out the Dyes, please take some photos and share them with us. You always have the neatest fabrics.

Thanks. those are actually very small - it was my test piece for the baby quilt

Out of the box, over the lines, around the bend!

Thanks! I'm afraid it will never grace a bed, though. Anne's mother said it was going up on the wall. The green in the border is a Shibori fabric and the pink was just painted and scrunched a bit.

It will stay pretty longer on the wall. It's great that you can work with fabric this way.

I haven't heard anything lately. How are your knees doing? Last I heard you were walking around the Stone Circle for therapy.

The knees are getting better everyday. I still have PT this week and next, but the surgeon doesn't want to see me for a year. Stairs are still a bit of a problem, especially going down, and getting into chairs (and cars) and then getting out of them again can be tough, but the walking and biking (exercise cycle) are good. I'm having a little trouble figuring out how to get down to the weeds - no kneeling! - but I'm sure that will come eventually. I told Stan I need one of those little carts with the old style tractor seats. He just gave me a look. lol, maybe a mechanic's cart - down on my belly scooting around the yard.

It's funny about me painting fabric. I always wanted to do watercolors, but they end up looking like some kid was fooling around. When I do it on fabric, it comes out much better. I don't get it, but I don't fight it - best to go with your strengths.

I'm so glad to hear you're getting along better now with those knees. You could get one of those yard wagons from Harbor Freight and put some padding on there. Lay on it belly down and scoot along with your feet. The wheels are big enough to get around easily, even on uneven ground. Or, better yet, get Stan out there pulling weeds!!! Thumbs up

LOL, Stan pulling weeds - hmm, not so much. He figures with the new knees I need to get out there and milk cows.

I do have a wagon, I could lower the sides and sit on it. How do I get up - that would be the question. upping and downing are interesting.

Think I'll get some fabric ready to paint, after I check the cow - new baby in the works sometime today.

Get your camera ready and take photos and videos. I'd love to see the new baby! There's bound to be a story in there somewhere! Big Grin

Apparently, she's changed her mind. She's standing up, chewing her cud and looking arrows at me for invading her space. Stan will just have to deal with her later!
