I have prepared 2 asian recipes within the past few weeks. both recipes have fresh ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil & cilantro in them. Everytime I had these for dinner I was awake @ night as tho I had caffeine.
Is this just a fluke or is there a stimulant associated w/ any these ingredients?

Ginger, while a naturally grown herb does have some stimulant effects on people and more so on some. Soy sauce adds flavor and stretches the use of salt, so no stimulant there..and Cilantro reduces the production of intestinal gas as well as being an antioxidant. So I would say that for you the ginger is the culprit, Mary.

Thank you LaVonne. both recipes had a generous amt. of fresh ginger. I suspected ginger but I like it and maybe I should just plan on staying up cleaning house til 2 AM whenever I eat ginger-filled recipes. Or hire out as a graveyard shift window cleaner?

maybe you could try using a bit less and still keep the unique flavor it provides?

I love the grated/minced ginger & garlic in the jar.. way better than powdered/granulated, and way easier than starting fresh when I'm trying to get a quick stir fry on the table

I love ginger also. I make iced ginger tea with a little mint leaf, but not drink it too close to bed time. Keeps me awake too.
