Alright all you NFL fans. Come on out of the woodwork.

In a game that no one would have predicted the final score, the defending Champion New Orleans Saints (did I just say defending champions?) got by their NFC Championship opponent from last season, the Minnesota Vikings by a score of 14 to 9. And no it wasn't three field goals for the Vikings, the Saints blocked their extra point attempt. With that, the NFL season got underway last Thursday night.

Interestingly, two of the most prolific offenses from last season only managed to score 23 points in total. That sounds a lot more like the point total for one of these teams at half time!. Regardless of that, our beloved NFL has returned to our weekends for the next four months. This Sunday's games are all over the map. (literally and figuratively) If you are in a pool, 9 wins could easily win it. Matchups like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs the Cleveland Browns, where the last one to try to give it away fails and blows your pick that way, or the two trap games that pit the Dallas Cowboys going into Washington to face a Redskins team that has an ailing new quarterback, (Donavon McNabb) whom the Cowboys have OWNED for the past few seasons when he played for the Eagles. So do you go with history of the Cowboys success against the team and their new quarterback or the odds that say never pick against a home team in a division rivalry?

Nearly the same can be said of the San Diego Chargers visiting the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have been woeful for the past few seasons, but they started to, at least, play well late last season. The Chargers have lots of holes and questions and they're playing in arguably the nastiest stadium to visit in the NFL at Arrowhead. Chiefs fans are rabid even when the team is a slug.

Of all the sixteen games on the schedule this weekend, I'm confident in only one pick I made and I'm not gonna tell you which one for fear that it'll jinx it.

Whether you're a Jets fan wanting to see your coach go up against his old team, the Ravens, on the early Monday night game, or an AFC South fan hoping to see the Texans finally break through against the mighty Colts, there's plenty of exciting action in the next couple of days.

C'mon NFLers.....show up here and let's talk some football!!

i was on vacaton in ocean city maryland and i had to watch the coboys lose to the re3d skins. it was a terrible game for the boys. too many mistakes and the last one ws the clincher. with 3 secondes left they scored the winning touchdown but got it called back due to a penalty.

I guess it's no surprise that the Saints were in prime time again in week two. They won another squeaker against a revved-up Forty Niners team that looked like a playoff caliber squad.

That is what the Saints have to look forward to each week throughout the season. Championships tend to bring out the best in the opposition the subsequent year. Everyone wants to measure themselves against the best.

Don't listen to those that say the Saints got lucky because SF turned it over (I forget, was it 4 or 5 times?) most times you make your own luck.

Rain and lightening delay in NYC. The game I've been waiting for all weekend and it's delayed. I thought only baseball got rain delays.

It's the lightening that's causing it. Rain doesn't really stop these guys from playing.

You've got most of it right Frank. It also doesn't help that they have "Al Davis Jr." as an owner.

After only five weeks of the season, the league is topsy-turvy. Most analysts picked the Giants to finish last in the division and many picked the Cowboys to be the first team to host a Superbowl this year. Unless there's a huge turn-around, neither of those predictions will hold up.

The Bears, who were supposed to rival the Lions for who could dig themselves the deepest hole in the NFC North, are leading the division two games ahead of the Vikings whose only wins came against the aforementioned Lions and Cowboys.

Arizona, a team that has scored 50 fewer points than their opponents, and starting an undrafted rookie at quarterback, somehow leads the division while preseason favorite San Francisco has only one win.

The AFC is a little more normal with the Jets leading their division as expected and the Ravens and Steelers tied for the lead in theirs.

The AFC South is almost a complete tie with three teams at 4-2 and one at 3-3.

Then we get to the upside down West. Kansas City, who wasn't supposed to win more than four games all season, already has three wins and leads the division, while the preseason favorite of many to go to the Superbowl, Chargers, have two division losses and sit dead last in arguably the weakest division in the league.

We still have twelve weeks of regular season action to come, so who knows what may happen? Pete Rozelle must be happy. His dream was for parity in the NFL, the end of dynasties. It seems his dream has been realized.

This weekend has not been good for teams named after things that fly, but I would like to see the Jets win. Actually, I want to see NE lose. I don't care who the other team is.
