From the last thread...Haley sexual? I must have missed something I really don't see her behaving that way.

While Carole King has lots of recognizable songs (I wiki'd), I'm not familiar enough to list 'em out, more of a memory problem than anything Hilarious!

I agree that Casey and Haley have the best opportunity to impress due to their style. James can scream out just about anything so he will be okay (ha, ha) and Scotty seems to manage to make the conversion to hisversion (country) every time - did any one notice in the last group sing that Scotty seemed to tame it down a bit? I think it is a bad week for Jacob and Lauren if they go sappy, in my opinion they both need to do something upbeat and powerful.

Regardless of Carole King being an odd choice of recording artist to choose from, I am looking forward to hearing the choices...I guess it is good for the younger generation to hear some well written lyrics from time to time.

Jer's TV in the studio doesn't get Fox, so he's not watched Idol...when I brought home the Bowersox CD and took it out for him to listen to, he gave it back later saying, well, she's just country. OH, no no no...Made him listen to everything she'd done on Idol, converted him..lol..
Haley's not sexual...she's a happy young kid having a good time. I hope she goes far. How could one not like James? Even if someone didn't like his music, how could anyone not like him? The likeability factor goes a long way. Which is why I don't mind if they lose Jacob...just can't seem to like him.
And Casey is so off the wall that I gotta love him for that...anyone who doesn't just follow the crowd is ahead in my book, plus he's got the ability to back up his quirkiness.
I can live with any of those 3 winning and not feel bad.

Maybe Jacob really is quite a diva.

I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing Bowersox too.

I agree about Casey, he is off the wall but can back it up!

Maridell, I did think Scotty sounded good singing "non-country" in the last group sing. I hope he branches out tomorrow night and doesn't settle on the obvious choice ("You've Got a Friend"). That one won't do him any good as far as showing his vocal range.

The sexual criticism of Haley focuses on her growl and on some of the poses she takes, which are described in such raunchy terms that even I, a fairly fearless person, don't want to give them a public airing here.

I agree that most of these contestants are extremely likable. James, Casey, and Haley are absolutely wonderful. I even like Scotty a lot. The only two that leave me a little cold are Lauren and Jacob. They're not horrible, but they aren't people I'd want to know.

I like Scotty for his (seeming) clean-cut decency...can never know for sure. Good voice, maturity for his age but feel that everything I hear from him sounds the same. I think that will change as he gets older, more experienced. I do like country, bluegrass, but Scotty's is the 'core' country, George Strait, etc. type that doesn't do much for me.
I'd like to see Casey come up with something totally off the radar for him this week...

I'd like Casey back solo and his bass doing that crazy stuff he did with Georgia--but it might not get the votes if he did.
You just have to have some excitement in the song choice. Except for the occasional brilliant sentimental fave like Over the Rainbow by ? Cat?

Katharine McPhee. That was a great performance. I've seen her acting on a couple of TV shows since then: "Community" and "CSI: NY." Her mother works for AI as a vocal coach now.

Pia reminds me of Kat: beautiful girl with a flawless voice and a personality that turns some people (but not me) off.

Beautiful. Hadn't seen that before. I wasn't watching Idol back then. My hat's off to anyone who can get through Rainbow without crying....

Haley's Adele song has been running through my head all day, after rewatching yesterday..
And I just watched Caseys Harder to Breathe again , and think the bit of bad boy he showed probably did a lot of good for him.

Is anyone else watching "The Voice" tonight? I'm looking forward to it. It's only 6:00 here now, so I have three hours to wait. If you're watching it, let me know if it's good.

I wonder whatever happened to Sherry and Angele, our forum admins. Do you suppose we'll still be talking in an "American Idol 2010" forum five years from now?

Thanks for mentioning 'The Voice'. I'm living in my own little clueless world here and had no idea...now I'll be watching it.

I just happened to run in to it while channel surfing. Some talent for sure but not all. I'm interested to know what happens after the blind auditions...

I like the concept of the show, but I wish the American public wasn't going to have the final say. I'd much rather have professionals choose the winner. I liked all of the voices and it was fun to see Frenchie Davis again. I thought it really was unfair when she was disqualified on season 2 of American Idol.

The Carole King theme worked well, I think, although they did sing some of the worst Carole King songs.

Jacob sang one of my favorite songs, but he really has trouble staying on pitch. I only liked the end. He's very good at scatting and no one knows if you go off key when you're scatting.

I can hardly believe I'm saying this, but I thought Lauren sounded good in her solo. But please tell me this: Do they think we have no memory? Why are they brazenly rewriting history? Lauren was the boldest, brashest brat on earth, flirting outrageously with Steven, giving Ryan nicknames and nudging him with her elbow at every opportunity, and making stupid jokes and remarks. Then the producers must have read how much people hated Lauren's personality in the chat rooms, because now they're trying to tell us that she's a shy and fragile little flower and we're supposed to be excited whenever she overcomes her insecurities and can look people in the eye. Is this the work of the Ministry of Disinformation? Are we living in some sort of Orwellian empire?

The Haley-Casey duet was only spoiled by the choice of my least favorite Carole King song: "I Feel the Earth Move."

Scotty did exactly what I had hoped he wouldn't do: He chose to sing "You've Got a Friend," the closest thing to a country song that Carole King ever wrote. It wasn't a stretch by any definition.

James was the best of the night, I think. I didn't hear a single bad note, and for the first time I didn't get nostalgic and wonder what Adam Lambert would have done with the song. I don't think he could have sung it any better than James did.

The Scotty-Lauren duet was bad as usual: She always oversings and drowns him out. And of all the songs to choose: "Up on the Roof" is such a New York City song. It just can't be sung by two hillbillies. As one person in a chat room asked: "Are they going up on the roof of the barn?"

Casey was great. And did you see how much the back-up singers and musicians enjoy performing with him? That was infectious.

Haley's voice was beautiful, but I don't remember ever hearing that song before, and it wasn't great. She also seemed to be having technical difficulties through the whole thing. The back-up singers drowned her out completely at one point. I think her microphone was off then.

The James-Jacob duet was okay. They both got carried away. I liked their banter before the song.

I liked Scotty tonight. They made him keep only one hand on the mic!
Another funny froufy dress on Lauren, with the everpresent cowboy boots.
James and Jacob seemed to dislike each other in the banter segment.
I am a Haley fan but I didn't like the song.
