Is anyone watching it this year? I've tried out of sheer boredom. (TV really is a wasteland.) I was entertained last year and found a few really talented people I could root for. This year, I cannot believe what garbage they - Howie, Sharon and Piers - have put through. Somebody throw these 'judges' out and find some who actually recognize Talent!

Hi, Alma. I watched a couple of the shows at the beginning, but I was as disgusted as you about the acts they put through and I stopped watching. I think my biggest problem with the show is the prize. The very idea that so many of these performers think their act is worth a million dollars is staggering!

Even more staggering is the thought that the judges think so, too! It's ridiculous.

Thumbs up I agree...how did some of these folks get this far???!!! Must have been a really small pool of "talent" to select from.

Can you imagine how the people who really do have talent feel? In the last episode (gagfest), the judges passed over a brilliant magician/illusionist in favor of a middle-aged man who bellyflops into a blowup pool filled with 12" of water. WTF??? How could you possibly make a Vegas show out of that - or if you did, how long would it last before the guy kills himself? I don't know who is the worst of these 'judges'.

I read a really irritating Nigel Lithgoe interview some time ago and forgot to report it here.

He was asked how he planned to fix the problem of the unfair voting results and the interviewer suggested that the number of votes per person should be limited. Nigel disagreed, saying that after announcing voting totals as high as 90 million, they couldn't come back next season with figures of 20 or 30 million because people would think the show's ratings had dropped. He said he's in favor of a change that would follow the SYTYCD pattern, allowing the judges to choose which one of the bottom three should be eliminated.

In theory, that sounds fine, but in view of the biases the judges showed this season, it could be worse than leaving the matter in the control of the public. Jennifer Lopez would automatically eliminate all the pretty girls and all of the judges would have eliminated Haley long before the time she actually did have to go.

Zuzu, did you mean to post this on the AI or SYTYCD forum? I got a bit confused reading it here, but it does apply to the way the last contestant on AGT is chosen by the judges. However, the outcome is no better than your estimation. Read above and you'll see. It's ridiculous. I think the best method of choosing is DWTS and viewer votes are limited there.

Thanks, Alma. I did mean to post it on the AI thread. I guess I just went down the line and clicked on the first thread that began with "America." Smiling

I agree that DWTS has the best method, even though I sometimes curse the voters for keeping some people on way too long and eliminating others on the basis of purely subjective factors.

Well, I watched last night - and the show was terrific! There were a couple of duds, but otherwise, most were well done, exciting and truly entertaining. I'll Tivo the results tonight, mostly because there will be a couple of guest entertainers who I wouldn't give a plug nickel to see. (Really, someone would have to pay me to sit through rap!) However, Prince Poppycock from last year will be on, so I'll FF through all the crap to see him. He was a riot and I'm eager to see if he got a Vegas show. Any watchers last night or tonight?

I watched, for the most part everyone did a good job. I tend to agree with the judges on the bike routine, I could only watch so much of that in one sitting but I do not understand the raves they gave him last time about going to Vegas with his show.

I really enjoy the young dancer, she is awesome.

I too look forward to Prince Poppycock! Big Grin He is an entertainer!

TG for Tivo! I just zoomed through all the nonsense to see Prince Poppycock and see the finalists announced. Way back when, someone decided that making everyone - contestants and audience alike - wait for an interminable time for the TA-DA! moment was suspenseful. Well, someone should tell 'em "NOT ANYMORE!" It's now silly, time-wasting and irritating as hell. That said, I think most of the semi-finalists were well-chosen. I am sad that the judges didn't choose Daniel; I think he has a brighter future in entertainment than the bunch of high school kids, regardless of how good they are. What happens when they graduate? Oh, well.

Seemed like Price Poppycock was having a costume malfunction of some sorts near the end. Thank goodness everything was attached!

I would have like to see the opera lady go home instead of Daniel. She is a talented singer but I just wasn't feeling it. Sad to see the young dancer go too, what a cutie.

I really feel for the contestants when they have to wait on stage for the announcement of who stays and who goes home...it seems mean to make them stand there waiting Thumbs down

Agreed on the high school students. I don't imagine they all aspire to graduate and go to Las Vegas...or any other place as a group act. I like their unique approach and they have some interesting moves...but not sure they are dancers in the true sense of the word.

Not to mention that the choreographer(s) are undoubtedly the dance teachers at the high school! I do admire them, but - once again - I don't see a Vegas show in that act. Daniel could be the next Liberace. I hope he gets a great gig somewhere and rises to fame. I think he deserves it.
