I had never heard of this (don't really get out much ) so when a friend told me about it, I was fascinated and gave it a try. All I had on my palette was UM Blue, Q.Gold and Q. Rose... so I wet some 300lb Arches Rough cold pressed and did a trial.....no 'scene' in mind. Then, at the top of the paper, where there was some space, I did a wet wash of the same colors.
Frankly, I don't see much difference in the colors (both WC and A are Daniel Smith) and I do notice a bit more transparency with the WC. I am surprised the acrylic turned out so 'kinda transparent'.
Has anyone else tried this? What were your results? What did/would you add or subtract to the paints. I have a sunset to paint with a lot of atmospheric dust in it....and I am thinking that the acrylics achieved that.....
Sometimes I've used acrylics as watercolor, often, in fact. The only problem is that once dry, there's no changing the transparency. And...if you are using salt, or trying for that effect, it doesn't work as well with acrylics.
Did you do your sunset yet? Those colors are lovely, and sunset-ish.
You did very well with a limited palette. And I like the look you got at the top.
I sure wish I had some extra hours in my days....I am so in a painting mood.

I started with washes, and mixed and then it looked fun so I put in trees and I got a WHACK in the brain that it is a matter (for me) of minimalization... I don't have to paint every #%#@!% leaf in the image.... I will take that and attempt to make a ''painting out of a work sheet''...

Yankee. It is good to be woken up and reminded by that gentle tug that...Hey...there is your passion...DO it! while I am still trying to find a matching sock.
My aunt lived in Hawaii, in Honolulu. Actually she was my husband's aunt, but she loved me best. She sometimes painted and I asked her to send me one of her paintings. I also asked that she send me one she had done of her local scenes. You know what she sent me? A rose.
Good grief. I have roses all over my yard. I really wanted something exotic, as I imagine Hawaii is...but no. I got a rose. Of course, I love it anyway. I never did get a painting of a Hawaiian scene, though.
I was out sniffing my American holly tree tonight. Did you know those teeny tiny little white blooms produce the very best fragrance? I need to figure a way to bottle it.
Not painting related, but horse radish gone to seed has an incredibly lovely scent....could smell it in the garden and could not believe it when I tracked down the source.
Horse radish?? Hmmmmmm...don't think I've ever smelled it, could be because I never eat it, I guess. I love the scent of nasturtiums, but they only last till about early June here. The heat gets them every time.
My nasturtiums are done now too. Horseradish flower are not very impressive - tall main stem with lots of tiny flowers. Not sure if i have a pic.
Tomorrow will try to get some pics of the humming birds. They have had a lot to say today and are so focused on tanking up, there were 4 on one feeder. They will leave within the next 10 days.
