This forum is for your discussion of Abstract art. Do you enjoy it, or not? It's been around for a long time, and is a way of expression for many artists.

Do you work in abstracts? Sometimes I do, and I love it. But sometimes I stay within the bounds of realistic subjects.

So let's talk about it. Show us your abstracts whether they are a collection or your own.

Feel free to start new threads if you want. Here's one to start, is it abstract?

Whatever it is, it is beautiful. You can see so many different things in it. It's magical.

Hi Stormy,
Thanks. I like it too, and intend to do another or two, maybe a series. I sold this one some time ago, and it's now in Baltimore. When I do the next one, it will be more vertical, taller than wide. Plants inspire me.
And yes, I talk to them, too.

LOL, Well, I certainly would. That one is hauntingly beautiful. A series would be wonderful, sold as one piece.

Here's another, though not quite as abstract. This is a quick painting of a cousin who is a professional pianist. He sat playing for a few hours, and I sat painting for the same few hours. So it was done pretty quickly. It's acrylic and about 3'x3'.

That one is very interesting. The keys give the impression of being surrounding by music. Some how it makes me think that the sun is enjoying the music and musician as opposed to the other other way around.

Thanks, Stormy...that's about the way it is with him. He is so into his music he has no sense of time, maybe the sun does enjoy it. A nice way to think of him.

I hope there are others who enjoy playing in the abstract world.

The banner you see above this Art cubit is a portion of the first attempt with brush and paint that my grandson did the year he turned 2. Everybody laughed at me for getting him an easel and all the accessories for his second birthday. He looked at the primary colors I got him, in a washable non toxic paint, red, yellow and blue. Then he looked at me and said, where's 'geen'...meaning green. So I showed him how to mix blue and yellow together to get green and he was off and running. He's five now, and he hasn't slowed down a bit. He paints everything he can get his hands on.

I love it!

Sharran, There's something about your first painting that draws me. It reminds me of the feel of some Beaux Arts
pieces. I had the opportunity to see quite a bit of Gaudi's work in Barcelona. Some of the furnishings and windows that he made in his apartments there had similarly styled figures within them. Maybe it's the combination of floral and figural motifs. Whatever it is, I find it very alluring. It's full of intrigue and motion.

I'm not real familiar with Gaudi's work, or wasn't at the time I painted the work above.

I painted it because I feel such a connection to living things, including plants. Not that I personify them, but I do talk to my plants occasionally, just as I feed and water them and make sure they have enough light.

A little strange, but aren't we all?

My plans are to do another similar painting, but more vertical and much larger. The one above was sold and lives in Baltimore now, and I think I'm ready to paint another one.

If I ever find time.....

Sharran, if you enjoy whimsey, you'd love a trip to Barcelona. Gaudi's work dominates the entire city in Parks, Buildings and in many other ways. It's an incredible place for an artist to visit.

Nothing stange about that feeling or expressing it. Think of how many famous works we would be without if it weren't for someone's need to express such things. I delight in the expressions of multitudes of artists, perhaps even more so, those whom fame has eluded.

Sharron I only know what I like, and I think your hidden fairy painting is fabulous. Yes I would call it abstract in that there is more there than your eye sees at first glance. Do you have a site where you sell your art. Love it. Shirleyt

No, I don't have a site, I'll have to think about that.

I've been thinking of adding a site here, for all of us.
We'll see.

Here's a question for you.....does a grouping of geometric shapes count as an abstract piece? Or is it a design, or maybe it's non-objective?

I had a lady ask me this week how I would classify a painting, if it contained only well shaded geometric shapes. Since they were done much like a well organized still life, I said it was realistic. I could see spheres, cones, and pyramids....so....

What do you think? It's a realistic rendering of a bunch of shapes, nothing really abstract about.

I think it is a question of words, not a question of a method or technique.
