hello all, if you're interested in bromeliads and have any questions, pearls of wisdom, or just want to see some pictures of lovely plants, welcome. Hurray!
This plant pictured is Werauhia (Were-row-ee-a) kupperiana, and it is very cold tender. It is one I have on my wishlist, but am not game to spend the money on, ( just yet), but I will wait and see if another Werauhia I have makes it through the winter first!

Hi sue why didn't you call yourself by the name people recognise ...I did.
It's kind of huge in here but it will gradually fill up ...well here are my poor neglected broms they are alive and proding little pups (some of them)

here some are ...common to you but not to me

They have been totally neglected but are ok anyway so now I had better be a better mum.
How do we look after them with Autumn coming on, do I do anything special? ...what of the pups coming along ...you wait until they are at least a third of mum's size is that right?

I know I am naughty but they have been growing in washed river sand ...against all the rules I know but I really did not know what to do with them.
I fed them only once with the brug recipe diluted.

this one came from you sue

Hi Chrissy and Charleen,
Chrissy, I changed my name as I'm sick of weeding and thought if I put it out to the universe, maybe my luck will change, career wise.
Your broms are looking nice despite your mentioned neglect! he he. I think all of those are neoregelias, so take any pups off (if you want, you can leave them on to clump) give the old mum a little bit of fert and put her in the shade. She might grow a few more pups that way. Pot the pups up into a soil suitable for orchids, place in the shade and then move slowly into the winter sun, and you will see some improvement in the intensity of the colours. When summer comes again, fertilise them and move back into the shade for pup production.
Thank goodness the computer is back! I had to find other things to do.....and I'd forgotten how to read a book and do hand crafts! he he. It was raining too much to spend the extra time in the garden, but thankfully it looks to be passing.
A big Autumn plant fair is on this weekend in Bellingen, so hopefully I will get a brom fix while I am there.
Anyway, glad to see you gals found me.

Well, its a new forum, so a new name and new friends always welcome.
Lovely pic Charleen, I've never seen that brom before. the way the tips are changing colour is quite unusual.
Chrissy, the pic that you posted twice is Neo. 'Break of Day' the others? I'm not too sure.
It rained me off the job today so I came home and started renaming my Bromeliad photos and am now going to put them into seperate folders. It seemed to take such a looong time, but was well overdue.
I'll post some pics as I go along.
This is Aechmea 'Blue Cone'. I'm not sure of its parentage. I thought maybe A. cylindrata, but this one is more a ball shape.
You both know how to use/get to the FCBS site to look up bromeliad names and pictures? Here is a link http://fcbs.org/pictures.htm any problems, just let me know.
